"Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

Hello everyone..

My ī03 blade is a wonderful beast almost in everyehere..: especially in long road trips, in racetracks (okay, needs definitely a steering damp!) but Iīd still want more power for speeding races.

I know thereīs a "big block" engine for Hayabusa (1500+ccm) which fits into a normal Busaīs frame.

Iīve been thinking about turbocharging and a bit nitro too but also left them. Does anyone of You fellows have bigger engines in your Blades or do You know further details about it? Any information is needed..

Thanks, by the way, itīs almost a winter here in Finlandīs Lapland..

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

I think it would be cheaper in the long run to buy a 1krr or similar liter bike. Are you drag or track racing? And from what i have heard here on the board if you are using every bit of the blades motor your lucky to have made it this far without a good steering damper. I have avoided high speed tracks due to not having one either. it's on my list though. I'm sure a liter bike rider will have more helpful ifo here soon.

Aliens general, everything about them is alien!

Just get a bigger more powerfull bike. You could upset the handling ( weight ) of it etc, when a bigger bike would already be set up for it and could be a lot cheaper in the end.

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

No official dragracing but we have a small airport in neighbourhoods and our motor club have a permission to use itīs runway for speeding. Such nice.. Just because of lack of power I havenīt took part in official drag racing competitions. Yet.

Also track racing is just in practising level but itīs fun too.. And Iīve been lucky without steering damp..I know. Couple of times itīs been SO close to fall. Highside-tankslapper -combination was hell of an experience one month ago. Thatīs why a steering damp definitely is in my purchase list before next season.

Yeah, I know that itīd be easier and cheaper choice to buy a newer liter bike , maybe 1000RR but I spend about 90 % of my riding km:s in public roads and I just have to say 954 Blade is a best bike for that purpose Iīve ever ridden. And Iīve tried 1000 GSX-R:s, 10R:s and R1:s too. Bladeīs frame and the whole package just fits into my size of a rider very well. 2005 I made 9000 km Europe-tour with Blade in 2 weeks and I think it couldnīt be better with any other liter sportbike.

So, I just like that bike too much and just donīt want to change it.. Difficult, difficult..

I know how to solve this the cheap way. get . you'll be able to get that rush every now and then when you need it without building up the motor. if you use it for touring building up the motor will hurt the reliability you love about the bike. the acational shot or 2 of nos will thrill your need at the airport. you could do the whole full system, powercommander, and the other regular mods too.

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

You can go with a 2 mil kit for the 954, shave/port/polish the head and redegree the cams, but if it was my bike and I did alot of street riding, I wouldn't do it. You can go with everything above except the piston kit and be fine on the street though. I'm assuming you already have a full system and power commander (which you will need a custom map for).

Why don't you just get a second bike?

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

Thanks for the advices..

No, I just have an Akra slip-on which previous owner had changed...no PC either. But if starting position is (about) 155 engine-HP:s then PC and full system exhaust pipe wouldnīt give much boost...right? They say PC only makes engine behave smoother and better at low RPM:s. And that would also mean lots of money to burn.

But, they say that everythingīs expensive only for the poor ones..

Yeah, it would be nice to have maybe an old-school GSX-R without fuel injection, then itīs easier to put a blower in it and use it in drag-racing.

ALSO it would be nice to have an 600-750 ccm fully fixed racebike for trackdays but itīs been too quiet with enormously rich heiress recently..

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

I have a full Micron Serpent exhaust w/pc on my 954. More powerful, (about 145 rwhp) and much smoother power delivery than stock. Much cheaper and easier than a new motor or new bike. I rarely find the need to go WOT on the street as the bike has such a strong and smooth midrange. Seriously, if you really need (or want) more power than that, you should get a 'Busa or ZX-14. For now, how 'bout just getting a damper for the 'Blade?

A full system with "custom mapped" pc will not only give you several hp, but will also shave weight.

Re: "Bigger" engine for 954 Blade?

here's my order of things you should do:

1. steering damper
2. full system, pc3 and custom tune

then if you still want more you can go with the +2mm bore like Silver bullet said and/or get the crank stroked 4mm. a 4mm stroke in a 954 would make it 1025cc. then of course you'd need another custom map made.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.
