will 530 chain work with -1 in front sproket?

will 530 chain work with -1 in front sproket? also is there a way to tell if your chain is 520 or 530, i talked to the last owner of my bike and he said that both sprokets and chain have been replaced but he didn't tell me if he kept them stock or not.

Sure if it's a 530 sprocket.

And then there's this asshole...

If you have a close look at your chain on the it should have the size/pitch stamped on the side plates - it'l either be a 530, 525, or 520 - most people who change the standard sprockets and chain from a 530 will drop down to a 520 pitch chain to save a bit of weight and reduce the rolling resistance (therefore saving a couple of horsepower).

I'm running a 520 chain and sprocket set, down one tooth in the front (15/42 - Euro bike, hence the 42 tooth rear) with a standard 108 link chain without any problems...but if I did it again I'd drop the chain length down to 106 links because at 108 with a brand new chain the wear indicators on the adjuster blocks show it as being at the very end of the "good" section and nearly ready for replacement ! - not that its a big deal, but it means the wheel base on my 954 is longer than it needs to be...(because the rear wheel is further back in the swing arm in order to get the correct chain tension).

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Spanky.

It'll work if you do -1 front and +1 in the rear, too. That's the change I made and I'm really happy with it.
