What model CBR forks for 96 900RR

I want to "upgrade/replace" the 10 year old forks I have on my 1996 CBR900RR. What other models will bolt in with out any mods?

I just want to slip mine out and slide another in. (that's what she said)

(info: I ride to work every day and do one track day a month)

Re: What model CBR forks for 96 900RR

If you are prepared to replace the triples, you can fit the 00-02 929/954 upside down forks and 17" front wheel. These are a direct bolt-up proposition. I put 02 954 forks on my 95 900RR.

In fact, changing out the triples would be easier than just changing the fork tubes alone!

Re: What model CBR forks for 96 900RR

Due to a track crash last year, I've already put new triples on.

would the 929 forks fit in the 96 900RR clamps?

Re: What model CBR forks for 96 900RR

Unfortunately, no, they won't fit.

The 929/954 fork tubes are a larger diameter than the 95-99. Also, the axle on the 929/954 is 25mm, where as the 95-99 is 20mm. That would mean that you couldn't use your 900RR wheel.

The 929/954 forks are a direct bolt up (00-02 years), and you'll get the 17" wheel too. In addition to larger rotors and more powerful calipers, you'll be able to run Michelin Pilot Power tires..about the best street tire known to mankind (that is also at home on the track).

Shucks! I'm going to have to wait, because I just had my calipers rebuilt, new lines added and a sweet set of Galfer Waves I got on ebay for......$295 for the pair, brand new.

Re: What model CBR forks for 96 900RR

to be fair the forks are only tubes ~ its the stuff inside that makes the different!

The USD forks of the later blade will be signifigantly better than what your used too, but a DECENT re-valve & re-spring will be the best option all round in my opionion.

this is because the damper assemblies in forks are made to a price.

the inside of USD forks is pretty much the same as RWU forks

if you replace the internals with aftermarket items, set up for your weight & usage then IMO this would be the best solution & save mucking about with wheels disks calpiers etc

if you really just want bolt into the existing tripple clamps (yokes in UK) then MAYBE (& I MEAN MAYBE) CBR600RR 1st RCV lookalike model ones will be ok....
