Operator error. And from personal experience I can tell you it's very easily done. Did almost exactly the same thing in Germany once, except I avoided the oncoming car.

You stop somewhere, jump back on your bike and without fully engaging brain, head out onto the road. Unfortunately your mind is still switched to "we drive on the left" mode. Only when you see a car do you realise your error. In his case the realisation came too late.

I've almost been taking out by a French car driving on the wrong side here in England too. Came around a corner and there's this Renault Twingo coming right at me. L/H drive car, French plates, right next to the famous restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, so probably one of their chefs.

Luckily, I didn't have any brain farts like that on the roads...but occasionally in a parking lot (while the mind is occupied with other things) I would catch myself doing the "Sainsbury Shuffle"...ie tooling down the wrong side of the aisle...

Re: how to kill a fireblade

Had a loan car once when I was in the USA. Stopped for fuel, went to the kiosk to pay, returned to the car, opened the door, got in.

WTF, where's the steering wheel gone .

Ooops, I'd got in the wrong door (actually the right door). Quick look around to make sure nobody had observed my foolishness, back out and around to the left door. Exit the petrol station a bit smartish, red faced

Thats funny what you did. This **** the guy did is just stupid. Why would you be in the oncoming lane with no idea whats coming. It's not like your on a closed circut. Well at least he got it on tape so he can watch it and maybe learn something. Reminds me of the guys in the vid about georgia bullet bikes.

With a twingo? was it purple? That could've been a nice egg-plant ommelete...

Re: how to kill a fireblade

There was so much wrong in that video. From the lack of protective gear to riding on the wrong side of the road. What fools.
