1998 cbr900rr; thermo fan; temp

Hi Guys,

finally got that cbr900 (upgraded from the 250 blade). Went for a ride today and noticed that the fans didn't come on at all.

What temp does your fan come on at?
The engine temp got to 100 c (212 f) and still no fan action so in my mind, thats too hot.

Re: 1998 cbr900rr; thermo fan; temp

I've got a '97 900RR and since I'd bought it (9-10 months), I hadn't heard the fan kick in. I asked my local dealer about the temp it should kick in and he said 102-103 deg c. So I let the bike warm up one day and it didn't come on. Turns out the temp sensor in the bottom of the radiator was shot so I put a new one in and it kicks in at 103 deg c.

That's 212-221F for you non-metric types.

Re: 1998 cbr900rr; thermo fan; temp

Thanks everybody,

I got caught in traffic today and the temp went to 105c (221f)and the fan started. It reached a max of 106c (223f) and then dropped to 100c (212f) i think, before the fan stopped.

Initially, it seemed to be too high for what I thought it should be, but since everyone else's cbr's also run to a similar temp before the fan starts, then I guess that's normal. All part of the learning process.

thanks again
