Charging Question

Whenever i let my 929 sit for a couple of days and go to ride it seems like it loses it charge. Ill have to put the battery charger on it and then it will imediatley with no hesitation start up. Is it possible that my battery may be on the way out seeing how the bike has 15k on it, or possibly a other electrical problem. Never had a problem with the lights dimming or anything when the bike is running. thx

If that's the original battery on a 2000 model bike, it's definitely near the end of it's life. However, you could always have other electrical problems.

Its a good chance its the battery. I'm on my 3rd on my '02 954

Could be the battery though my '00 Honda 929 is with the original battery & feel I will have to put in a new one in spring or summer of '07.

The '04 Honda 954 should be good for a few yrs.

Mind you both are with Battery Tenders hooked up to them each time I put the bikes away in the evening.

I have a '97 Yamaha YZF600r that had to have the battery replace this summer because I did not give it the care as the above two bikes.

So to me a Battery Tender will give you longer life with the battery of your bike. They only cost you Americans from $30.00 to $35.00 & it is money well spent knowing the bike will always start up & longer life. In fact anyone with an electric starting scooter, or m/c should have a BT.

Also the BT was engineered for SMALL batteries & only has 1.25 amps going into the battery yet will shut off once fully charged & put the bike to "on storage" Green light for latter & Red light in the BT for the first bit.

I tested the voltage to the battery when running it was about 15, so i guess that means the systems charging. When it wasn't running nothing was draining the battery, so it must be the battery if im correct.

It's always best to pay cash and avoid charging stuff, it can get you in trouble.

The internal resistance of lead acid batteries increases over time. The surface charge of your battery can fade in hours or days. Sulfation is a coating that develops over the plates that limits the maximum current you can get out of that thing. If you use your bike for daily transportation, a new battery would quickly become a priority. The day is rapidly approaching that your battery will not deliver enough energy to turn the starter fast enough to start ignition. The weak starts after a few days is usually the only warning you get before you need jumper cables.

I'm on my 2nd. I found the OEM battery for $85. I'm only getting 2 years out of one without a battery tender.
