Popped headlight bulbs!!

Hey Folks, I was on the way home from work yesterday and heard a loud pop followed by another one about 45 secs later. I had no idea what it was until this morning when i turned on my bike to find i had no headlights(crap! no riding today!) both bulbs had popped(the glass from them laying inside the headlight housing!) Any Ideas? could overcharging cause this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Popped headlight bulbs!!

overcharging.... no, the fuse for the headlights would take care of that (if that in fact were even an option). moisture is what normally makes the glass actually break

Re: Popped headlight bulbs!!

has happen to my truck in the past so I don't see why it can't happen to a bike. the one thing you are forgetting is old seals on the lights that were in there letting in the moisture. water on a hot ass bulb = broken glass. I wouldn't sweat it too much. get some new bulbs. take the old ones out on a nice hot day, let it sit with no bulbs in it for a few hours to dry up anything that could be in there, install the new and ride on.

Re: Popped headlight bulbs!!

and while I'm sure this goes without saying I'll say it anyways. DON'T TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR BARE FINGERS, the oil from your fingers will make the new bulb explode as well.

Re: Popped headlight bulbs!!

that can happen. but it rarely does. and do you have to use the word "explode"? you're gonna make him paranoid.

Re: Popped headlight bulbs!!

I owned an 89 Mustang that had a leaky headlight housing... darn thing would collect water inside then when i took a corner the water would break the hot headlamp. I sold the car before i had a chance to fix the leak.
