Re: factory decal... is this normal

I'm always scared of that low of mileage. Also, my 06 and 07 had decals on top of the clear. Good luck with her.

Re: factory decal... is this normal

Could be somebody bought a bike and thought they would like riding. Then it wasn't for them.

Or his wife made him sell it , Sounds like a good deal!

Re: factory decal... is this normal

anything on the tank should definitely be clear coated, body work should not be .

Re: factory decal... is this normal

Some other guy on here has a 1000RR and said his factory decal was lifting away from the paint. After doing some studing on modern paint finishes there are a lot of variables in drying time and procedure of drying the paint. Honda was probably going to run into some paint issues if they decided to put the decal under the clear coat so they may have opted to apply the decals last, to prevent those issues.

One issue is the solvents in the new paint need time to evaporate out of the new paint. If they apply a decal over the fresh paint the solvents will have no way to escape and the paint will never fully harden underneath the decal. They would need to paint the fairing, let it cure for a couple weeks, then apply the decals and then the clearcoat over that. Problem with that is base coat paint needs to be topcoated usually within one hour. They needed to get the bikes out faster than that and save some money.

Besides that a lot of people like to remove the factory decals for a cleaner overall look.

Sounds like a very good deal to me. He probably took a loss on that sale.

Does the bike have any cosmetic damage like scratches or signs of being laid down?

the decals are under the clearcoat I believe on every manufacturers bikes. its just the tank is the only part that gets clear coat. plastic fairings do not have a clear coat paint job thereby the decal cannot be on top of or underneath what isn't there. they are colored plastic all the way through.

8600 sounds like an awesome deal.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Wrong. All bike plastics are painted. Look at the backside of your plastics, you'll find the overspray from the paint job. Not everyone bike has clearcoat over the decals. The 600RR is an example.. i've seen some owners peel them off the bike. Plastics for Honda are made out of ABS which can be tinted white or black during manufacturing, it cannot be produced in finished colors.

Same with Yamaha, they use PPE/PPO plastic which is painted.

I used to think the plastics were not paint too

$8600 is pretty good for that low of miles. I just bought my '06 brand new a week ago for $8865.

plastics are painted, my fairing can attest to that, from debris being kicked up from cars and nicking my paint .
