Running wrong size tire - Affect handling?

A month or so ago I had to replace the rear tire on my '01 929. As it was still fairly new (less than 1k miles) I was bummed at having to shell out the cash, but not too much because the guy I bought the bike from had new tires installed before I picked it up. Today, as I was doing a google search on my bike I came across a couple of articles and first rides from when the bike was new. Cool, I thought, and read up on what an awesome bike this was and checked out all the specs. Low and behold, I find the (still) new rear tire I've installed is THE WRONG SIZE!! I had them put the exact tire on as the damaged (still new) one, which obviously was the wrong size too. I'm now running a 180/55/17 when the specs say 190/50/17.
Sooo...how does this (if at all) affect the handling of the bike? I guess my speedometer is a bit off too??
The real pisser is my buddy had a new 190 that he would have GIVEN me, but I wanted to replace it with the same size as the tire on it.
$&*#^$*#(@(@!)!!!!!

Re: sonofa#&^$*!!!

Oh. I guess I could have searched myself, but I didn't think this was that common. Seems like it's not that big of a deal after all. In fact, most opinions are pretty favorable.

Thanks for the quick response!

Re: sonofa#&^$*!!!

Or..take your buddy up on his offer and pay the $15-30 to change it out.

Re: sonofa#&^$*!!!

I actually prefer the 180 on the track ... 190 on the street. I didn't notice a hugh discrepancy with the speedomoter but then I don't really look at it very much.

Re: sonofa#&^$*!!!

Yup, a lot of guys run the 180 on the track to improve handling. It's not necessarily a bad move.
