And it stopped being a fireblade when the engine went to 1000cc.
Last of the proper blades was a 954
That's twice I've heard that on this forum. Anyone care to qualify it? I'm by no means the resident expert when it comes to Hondas. I'm just curious if there is any validity to the claim or if it's more rhetorical nonsense in the urinary olympics.

If it is valid Honda obviously didn't get the memo, because they keep puting Fireblade stickers on the plastic. Maybe they're just leftovers from '03.

It's just semantical word games to get hung up on. My CBR954 doesnít even say Fireblade anywhere on it, that name is not used in the US by Honda. Is mine a "true" Fireblade? Eh, who cares, it put's a smile on my face, call it what ever you like.

Re: 2008 Fireblade

Babba Tadeo was the engineer who first sought to decrease the weight of the motorcycle while other manufacturers were increasing it along with displacement. His design aim was to create the fastest handling lightest weght litre class displacement bike on the market. At one point in time the Gixxer 1100 weighed in somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 pounds. A friend of mine used to ride one and that was his greatest complaint about it.

Babba did not design the 1000 and the additional 46cc displacement actually came with a signifigant weight increase. The 1000's are are actually quite portly in comparison to the 954.

I hope Honda returns to it's aim of having the best handling big bore bike with the 2008 superbike roll out.

Re: 2008 Fireblade

The 1000RR is still a fireblade.. Having grown up with my family owning a Honda Motorcycle dealership. I have had the lucky chance of having just about every honda sportbike.. they all are great bikes but my 2007 RR is the best one yet.. Im sure the 08 will be just awsome.. the 07 RR is only 18lbs heavier compared to the 03 954 and is a much better bike in every way, and compared to all the 07 1000's the honda RR is the lightest of the group..

I live in Seattle, it's generally cold and cloudy here so I'll take any extra heat I can get and especially that generated by the underseat exhaust. Frankly, I prefer the exhaust underseat...sick and tired of those little annoying burns from pipes. Different strokes...

Re: 2008 Fireblade

I have an 06 Busa right now. I love my bike for the long haul and it doesn't do too bad in the twisties either. I can generally keep up with most of the 1K'ers in the canyons, but when I'm up against seasoned track riders... I'm hosed. Later this year I will be purchasing a dedicated canyon carver. I just haven't decided on one yet... waiting to see what Honda offers for their CBR1000RR upgrade. I believe I have it narrowed down to the CBR1K or the the ZX10. Although I did hear that the ZX10 can get kinda squirly coming back to two wheels.

Re: 2008 Fireblade

If the 08 CBR looks anything like the one at the top of the first page of this topic... I'm sold. I will be selling the fridge, the dishwasher, and the kitchen table to get it...

Looking at the exhaust patent drawings in this thread would suggest you might be out of luck.

I will be glad to see the end of the undertail personally.
Aesthetically it is not pleasing to me.

Seeing as how I have never ridden a 900-954, I have no frame of reference for the older Honda's. I will say that everyone I know said even the '04-'05 1KRR had the lightest handling in the class, generally attributed to mass centralization. I can say that coming from an '05 ZX10R, my 1KRR feels like a 600. I guess I'm saying I didn't know Honda ever abandoned it's goal of building the best handling liter bike.

Good info.

Re: 2008 Fireblade

The argument is just that all previous "fireblades" were designed or influenced by Babba Tadeo and the 1KRR has none of his influence. I don't think anyone is arguing the capabilities of the current bike, just the history behind all of the others.
