Price Opinion

I have a 2000 929 with 26,000 miles, almost 27,000 on it. It has a rebuilt title, i rebuilt the bike myself over last winter. In Indiana they let you take a salvage motorcycle and rebuild it and have a police officer inspect it to approve to apply for the rebuilt title. I am not sure how it is able to transfer in other states. I rode it all year and am now working on finishing up a 2000 R1 i am rebuilding.

I am thinking about selling both these bikes, but I want to know what you guys think my bike is worth or might pay for it. I know you can get people to pay more than what they should because they don't know any better, but I just want an average. The motorcycle had a tiny hairline crack in the weld on the frame at the yoke where the triple tree goes through. This has been ground out and heli-arc welded by a professional welding shop. I had a body shop re-paint the whole bike and i applied the factory stickers back on it for the stock look. The frame and wheels are polished on the bike. It has a D&d pipe, fiberglass undertail and clear alternatives taillight. It also has fairly new tires, maybe a 2000 miles on them at the very most.

Here is a link for some pics: 2k929 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Let me know what you think. Bike runs great, i haven't made a decision yet, but am just thinking about getting something a little bit newer.

Re: Price Opinion

looks nice, the one thing that may turn buyers off is the 'salvage title' ...i bought my 01 929 with just under 35k miles on it for $4500.It's got a ton of aftermarket goodies = chrome wheels, swingarm, subframe, levers, carbon fiber frame covers,Clear Alternatives LED rear light, flush mount fronts, carbon gas cover, polished aluminum frame sliders, pegs, tinted shield, and some other stuff...your probably looking at $43-$4600 is my guess...the bike looks clean,it will just depend on the buyer...also it's almost winter,i'm not sure where your at,but that will most likely be a factor if your located in a state where it snows in the winter,as people looking for bikes may not be in the market ...also the 08's are coming out, which will drive down our bike values even more...

Re: Price Opinion

I agree. I know it may not be a good time to sell right now, but early march/april is usually when prices go crazy! I think i would be happy with about 4200, that is basically what i have in the bike. It will be hard for me to let go, I have put alot of time into it.

Re: Price Opinion

Pricing is so subjective it's hard to guess. Myself, for a bike that's had moderate damage, especially to the frame, with a rebuilt title, it might be worth $3000 depending on a lot of factors. Who knows...you might get some starry-eyed kid to pay a lot more. Just remember what P.T. Barnum said...

Re: Price Opinion

I'd say 2500-3000 for salvage title 3600-4200 for clean title 929.

I wish they were worth more as I have a 929 also. But they just aren't getting the money for what they are.

Re: Price Opinion

Yeah...maybe i can find a starry eyed kid :-) It's not a bad bike and nothing is wrong with it, just would like more money! I am looking for a Charcoal and Black 954 i think. Maybe a rc51 something like that.

Re: Price Opinion

Hey 2K, I go through bikes. I'm on about #35 in 36 years of riding. I think you already know this, but a salvage title will stop a lot of people dead in their tracks. Dealers will offer about 30-40% of a bike without one. As for accessories, I prefer to buy stock, and stock is actually worth more than modified. Can you see where its been welded on the frame? I see that its been polished, so all the anodizing is gone. Myself, and I'm being brutally honest here, a weld on the frame would keep me from buying it. You've got a nice looking bike. Maybe you could find someone that just wants a nice, fast a_s bike, that isn't as picky as I would be.

Good luck.

Re: Price Opinion

I paid $2700 for a 01 ERION with $1500 in performance up graded and in near mint shape with low miles and a clear title, so I guess I'm not one to really respond. but if I sell mine I want 5.5 to 6K for it as it sits now with 5K miles on it.

Re: Price Opinion

I'm not sure who you stole that from....but if they are selling another mint condition bike like yours sounds like let me know! Haha....but I agree...you wouldn't know it's been re welded unless i told you.

Re: Price Opinion

I also got a 01 yamaha yzf600r with 1200 miles bone stock for 3200. I'm just a bargain hunter, I had a 91 fzr600 with a full vance & hines exhaust with a custom green and black paint job with a matching helmet for 1200 bucks.

There is always someone willing to let it go for cheap because they need out of it right away.

Re: Price Opinion

Does anyone know if a rebuilt title can be transferred to what in other states? I am just wondering if certain states don't have "rebuilt" titles such as indiana and how they would covert? Thanks.

Re: Price Opinion

Interesting comments. I also live in Indiana and I just purchased an 07 1000rr. I bought it from an insurance company and it also has a salvage title. I was shocked when I went to look at it, the only things it needed was a new rear fairing and a clip on as well as some other parts. It has 1200 miles on it. I purchased most of the parts for it on ebay. I only have about $250.00 in parts. My biggest expense is going to be getting it painted. I just took it out on the first ride today and it performed like a new bike. I couldn't be happier with it. I bought it to resale it, since I got it for a song, but know I'm thinking of keeping it after riding it. Good luck with yours. I'm sure if you hang on to it you'll get what you want for it.
