Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Looking to change out the Bridgestone BT012 (front and rear) that came with my 954. Looking for feedback such as grip, warm up time, longevity, etc, from anyone running with these tires? And what about the Avonís?

Do I even need that much tire for the street?

Look, lean, believe!!

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

warm up is good, grip is good, life, ummm, maybe not that great, but not bad for the grip you get either...

I speak from Sportec experience. The Diablo's are supposed to be even better. They are my favorite tire, and the price (at least around here) is right!

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

I ran them both and loved them. Both warm up quick and stick like glue. The Diablos were better in the rain. I only put about 1500 miles and one track-day on my Diablos so I'm not sure about their life-span, but the Sportecs didn't last too long.

IMHO, I would always use a softer, stickier tire like the Sportec or Diablo for the street, even if it meant sacrificing mileage. I'd rather be replacing tires every 3000 miles than fairings. I guess it all comes down to how you ride.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Would these two tires have roughly the same tire life as the BT012's?

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

I don't know, as I've never run the BT012s. As cheap as Sportecs are, though, I'd give them a shot. I talked to a few people at the track over the Summer who were using them as race-tires.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

I got less than 4K miles on the sportecs with 2 track days and I am 1 track day and about 1200 miles into my Diablo's. I think I like the Diablo's a little better so far. They seem to be more predictable than the M1's but it's so close that it's almost not worth mentioning. I think I might go back to M1's purely because of cost. I don't think the Diablo's are enough better to make that much of a difference. Both are awesome tires, warm up super fast and have great grip.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Just a reminder that there is a Diablo and a Diablo Corsa. The Diablo Corsa is intended for 70% track, 30% street use. I don't know which ones the guys here are referring to when they say they've used Diablos. I have the Diablo Corsas and I think the grip and wear is excellent. I have also used the M1s and liked them a lot too. The M1s and Diablos are similarly priced. The Diablo Corsas are about $100 more per set, but are absolutely worth it if you do track days.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

I have used the M1s and currently have the BT012s. I like the 012s better so far. Feel like they have better grip and still fall in very predictable.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

I've had the 012s, M1s, and Supercorsas on the 954. I've also had the Diablo Corsas on my F3 track bike to test em out.
As far as track use goes I'd rate them as follows.

Supercorsas
Diablo Corsas
Bt12
M1

As far as street goes taking into consideration mileage, I'd rate them as follows:

M1
Bt12 (almost a tie with the M1 but a bit less mileage with a bit more stick)
Diablo Corsa
Supercorsa

On the street any of these would do. If you run hard on the street I'd run the Diablo Corsas but I'd guess you'd get less mileage than the M1 or Bt012 ( I haven't run my track take of DCs on the street yet). I've liked all four of these tires. I'll stick with running the Supercorsas on my track bike and then running the takeoffs on my 954...Don't have much rain here in the desert so I don't have to worry about that, and haven't had issues with the SCs on the street.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Well, since no one has commented on the Avons, seems like you should try them out and let us know what you think.

I've used M1's and Diablo Corsas. They're both nice but the DC's are pricier and if I were just doing street riding, I'd go back to the M1's. I have them on my VFR. I haven't tried the 012's.

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Which 012 are you guys talking about?
the BT012SS or the regular ones (BT012)?

Thanks

Re: Opinions on M1ís or Diabloís

Thanks for all the great input.

I was swaying towards the Diabloís but from comments made here maybe I should go with the M1ís!! I was also looking at the Avon AV49SP & AV50SP but their about the same price with no feedback from anybody here.

Look, lean, believe!!

I have used many sets of M1s, and am on my first set of Diablo's. They both handle about the same on the track, but the Diablo's have more freeway noise. So far I like the Diablo's but don 't know about mileage yet.

Can you keep me updated on how they wear, as this will be the determining factor on what I buy?

If I was talking about the Diablo Corsas I would have written 'Diablo Corsas', not simply 'Diablos'.
