Hurt my baby

Had the very unfortunate experience to drop my ’08 on Thursday.

Very strange thing happened. From standstill just as I pulled of in a right turn, the stud underneath the foot peg (herein after referred to as the culprit) “caught” the top of my boot and drag the boot underneath the back wheel so me (hereinafter referred to as idiot – feels that way anyway) and the bike tipped over.

pic 1 is the culprit which has subsequently been removed.

Immediately ordered all the damaged parts ie.
-side fairing;
- exhaust cover;
- clutch cover;
- mirror;
- handle bar weight;
- front brake lever; and
- air intake cover.

Started to strip all the damaged parts on Thursday evening, and received all the new parts on Friday – big up to Honda SA for having had all items with the exception of the clutch cover in stock.

pics 4 & 5 show the bike in the stripped state and pic 6 shows the damage on the clutch cover

All is fixed now and the bike is like it was on Wednesday.

As this was my first time to drop a bike....ever, idiot wants some advice.

Noticed some oil when the bike was laying on it’s side. Nothing containing oil seems to be broken or cracked and no sign of any oil now. Is it normal for oil to leak if the bike is not upright and where does it come from?

Re: Hurt my baby

MadnohB, sorry to hear that dude. I had a very similar experience on my way home from purchasing my bike. My shoe lace got caught in the rear brake lever coming to a traffic light. I was able to save it for the most part, but did end up with minor scratches to the cover as yours did. In the US the cover is black so I touched it up and it's hard to see if your not looking at it. Never really cared for riding boots, but I have since bought some (no more laces).

Re: Hurt my baby

That sucks...peg feelers serve no purpose.

I would already have the girl fixed but I broke the my whole thumb right off my fricken hand. Glad to hear your back up and lookin good.

Re: Hurt my baby

I don't know why there are people that think this bike is ugly. That tail tidy removes the only ugly part of that bike. Sweet ride!

Re: Hurt my baby

Have already gotten my laces and pant cuffs caught on the peg feelers a few times while starting off. Luckily, its always been while going straight and no feet were required for balance. I too may ditch those evil bastards.

Re: Hurt my baby (again)

Sh#t, I'm unfortunate with this bike.

Nearly 200 000 incident free km's and now two mishaps with the 08.

Long (and embarrassing) story......this time the front/left side. Nothing bent or broken but enough to be seriously annoying.
