Is this a good deal?

I found an 02 CBR RR 954 for $4200 with 22k miles. I was wondering if this is a good deal. I went to look at the bike and it was in great shape. The fairings were immaculate and so was the body. There was no frame damage or even scratches. It looked like the bike has never been dropped. It shifted well and the brakes/tires are in great condition.

My only worry is the high mileage and the left front fork is leaking a little bit. I've done some research on the forums and found that the 954 engine is pretty much rock solid but they do tend to run hot especially when driving the in the city (~200).

Thanks

Re: Is this a good deal?

22K is not high mileage.

Re: Is this a good deal?

Sounds like a good price and I would not be overly concerned with the mileage. If it's in good condition with those miles it means the bike was most likely cared for properly. I have put over 50,000 miles on 2 bikes I owned with no problems and they were going strong when I traded them. Fork seals are not that difficult to replace and don't cost much either. Be sure to replace them as fork oil dripping on your brake disc is not desirable.

Re: Is this a good deal?

I have replaced fork seals on my roommates 00 zx 6r and it was a pain. I've also read the fairings are very difficult to take off and that the bike is not very easy to work on. I'm also a relatively new rider and read that the 954 is not a good beginner bike but when I saw the bike I pretty much fell in love with it. Maybe the owner replaced all the plastics but it looks BRAND NEW.

I'm just worried I'll buy it and regret that I didn't got for a 600cc bike but I feel like the price is really good.

That mileage isn't bad at all. Price is ok but not a steal. I paid 5300 for my 02 two years ago at it was in mint shape with 16k miles. I had a shop do my front seal for 300 I think. I am not mechanically inclined.

Any jerk off can twist the wrist. It takes another kind of person to have the discipline and control not to. Post some pictures if you can. AS for the mileage, my room mate had an '89 CBR 600F Hurricane with 50,000 miles on it. That thing will still do 150mph and gets 45 miles to the gallon.
