sputter/stumble under 2500 rpm

OK at the risk of getting eaten alive I need to ask. I swear I have searched all over this website but the only hits I got were related to 929/954 with fuel injection...so... Some help or a link would be greatly appreciated. I have a 96 Blade all stock except Yoshi bolt on, and it sputters under throttle when starting from stop until it hits about 2500 then it takes off. It seems to get worse (more throttle and time to reach 2500) after riding for awhile or on a hot day. I have since replaced the plugs (appeared to be running a little rich) with iridium and replaced air filter. Where do I look next? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: sputter/stumble under 2500 rpm

Hard to diagnose something based simply on a description, but my initial reaction is that maybe you should simply keep the revs up. I can't image riding at less that 5000 rpm, except in downtown traffic when still in first gear.
Did the bike ever spend a long time without running? like over a winter with normal fuel still in it? Maybe carbs and jets need a thorough cleaning. And how long has it been since the carbs were synchronised?
Was it rejetted for the Yoshi bolt-on?

I hear you on keeping the revs up but it is in traffic where it causes grief. Such as merging, or yields, at low speed in first then when I get on it to accelerate it bogs down and sputters, other that that no issues. Since I've owned it the longest it went without running would be a week. It was kept in a heated garage and started up every other day during the winter. Cleaning maybe, I didn't take them apart completely as I ran out of time and wanted to ride but the intake area was spotless. Synch sounds like a good culprit and as for the re-jetting I believe it was. I intend on getting a new jet kit and full exhaust over the winter so if thats the problem that should solve it. Thanks very much for the help my local guru is unavailable for a little while.

That is very bad for an engine. Winterize it and let it sit.

As for your issue. The low speed might need to be adjusted. Also, what is the idle set at?

Syncronise the carbs and see if it gets better. It sounds like a rich condition off idle as it gets worse with a warm engine and higher outside temps. Also, check to see that your pilot screws are set correctly. I never winterize my bike. Instead, I make sure to ride at least once a month during the winter and burn off a full tank of fuel. Just an option.

Re: sputter/stumble under 2500 rpm

Ok, it isn't 9-months, only 8. lol It depends on where he is, but it would probably be colder there. So riding may not be an option.

I wish you were wrong but....where I am the winter is 8 months long usually with snow that long too! However when I lived in, BC I rode year round with the exception of a week or two here and there. (just to alleviate any rumour of an arctic Canada ) (So I never winterized, I guess thats something I will learn and do.

Thanks. I appreciate all the input. I'm no noob, but an intermediate at doing my own bike work.

Re: sputter/stumble under 2500 rpm

The idle is set for 1200, I just checked my manual and that appears correct.
