I remember a long while back Hondagirl ended up replacing the 5mm screws holding the seat down with quick release pins. The ones I have are seemingly too big and would require me to drill out much more than just the threads. Can someone point me to the correct size pins? TIA
Im interested in changing my bolts too....I hate those allen bolts. Makes it easier on track day to switch seats and take out the fuses for brake and headlights
The quick release pins are a bit too long for your application and the tapered end can be ground down a bit to get it to fit. Just use your trusty Dremel and you'll be fine. Just take off a bit at a time until it fits snugly and releases easily.
The pins are available from Sargent Cycle
The same folks who make those great seats! They're under accessories on the website, I think the link I put in should take you right there. Just make sure you order the correct ones, as they make different ones for Honda and Suzuki.
I'm very happy with mine. As HondaGal said, you'll have to grind a bit of the end off, as they're a bit too long. The directions may state which size drill bit to use, but I don't remember as I did mine a couple of years ago. Otherwise, just find a drill bit that looks to be the same diameter as the pin. I'd err on the size of too small to start, as you can always make it a bit bigger. The threads appear to be an inserted 'plug', and that plug stays in. You don't drill enough to remove it or anything.
CBRjack : I have basically the same thing on my Volkswagen decklid. The thing is. What size pin did you use and did you drill the threads to fit the pin?
Dunno what size pin it is as they were pre-identified for Honda by Sargent. I think the drill bit size is 1/2' and yes, I had to drill out the threads. I didn't mind drilling out the threads because the bolts were always a PIA to re-insert. It seems that the threaded holes are slightly angled and due to the minimal amount of room behind/under the 95 seat, I always struggled just to get the bolts seated.
These Allan bolts have bugged me since April of '00-----obviously no engineer rode a 929 & had to get at the fuse box or tools in the dark of the night out on the hwy.
The info above might be my winter project or at least aim if for the Spring in March.
Many Suzy GSXR bikes had the very Allan wrench in a special holder under the flip-up or easy to remove pillion saddle. Yet said Allan wrench was only for the two Allan screws holding down the battery. What a difference in thinking of the engineers!!!!!!!
yeah maybe I will try the EBAY ones...as $5.99 is not that bad to experiment. I dont feel comfy drilling anything, and dremmeling etc...
im just a wuss...my luck I will mess up everything.
