1995 CBR900RR rear shock swap from newer CBR900 series

My poor old '95 Blades rear shock went out with a whimper the other night and I am wondering if there is anybody on this board who knows what will directly bolt up to my bike to replace the old one. I don't want to, and can't afford, a brand new after market one and know that sometimes some things are interchangeable, but alas I have no idea. So if any body on this board has swapped out their first or second gen CBR900RR rear shocks with a newer model one please let me know 'cuz right now I'ma walking and IT SUCKS!

newer models will not fit unless you do some mods.
Sometimes you can find new one on ebay for a good price!

I think the problem you'll most likely have is finding something that doesn't foul the reservoir against the subframe or tray.
Measure the length and the width of the upper and lower eyes and start measuring shocks.
The 929/954 for example is 285mm long with M10 bolts and 28.4mm top and 39mm bottom mount widths.

You can fit anything between a 93-97 900rr rear shock. However, if you fit the 98-99 shock, the bike will sag in the rear.

Is that because the shock is shorter or because it's sprung lighter?

i just got a 08 600rr for cheap, i'm going to see if I can fit it in on my 98 900rr in the next couple of months. I'm not too optimistic, but it might work just because of the way the reservoir is positioned/mounted on the shock

the 98 and 99 shocks are a tad shorter then the rest. I'm going to put a 98 shock on my 97 just for that reason: to lower it a tad. It's minimal, like a half-inch I believe. I'll measure before and after when I recieve my shock.

cool, thanks for the info all... ended up scoring a '95 rebuilt with Race Tech internals and an Eibach spring off E-bay, BUT... I also scored a '97 shock off a buddy and can tell right away it's a direct fit. I'm going to try the Race Tech one first... anybody ever had their rear shock rebuilt by these guys, any experience riding with them = any differences (besides better tuning and handling, etc.)?

Hi, I to am replacing my 94 fireblades rear shock this winter and from the above am i right in saying that i can fit a shock from blade models within the years of 93-99 bu the 98-99 models will give a lower backend?
Considering im tracking my blade alot will the 98-99 shock be the better choice?

depends, if you want your bike more stable at high speeds, a lower rear/higher front does that. If you want better turn in and holding a line in a turn, a lower front/higher rear does that.

What about my situation? I have a 99 and the shock is done. The rear end likes to pogo. I can't seem to turn any screws on the shock as they appear to be seized. Will a new 600RR shock work out? Should I look into having Race Tech rebuild it? Or am I up the creek without a paddle?

The shock on my 98 (identical to a 99) was done though not quite to the pogo level and could not be rebuilt by a local (and I think very competent) shop because rust on the shock shaft meant that new seals would quickly die. Replacing the shaft would not have been cost effective. So instead I bit the bullet and went for an ELKA 3-way that I picked up from CBR400RR (he's a site sponsor) and I haven't looked back. Spring and factory set-up depend on your weight and riding style. My advice is GET THIS SHOCK

Canadian made, too, so there shouldn't be any customs/duty issues provided CBR400RR is successful in getting it drop shipped like is supposed to happen.

Dubai must be nice right now. I was there working on the Dubai Metro from October to December. Would've loved to had a bike while I was there.
