Rubs noise from rotors/breaks

1st, sorry about misspelling in title

2006 1000rr...4600 miles

rubbing noise from front wheel that speeds up as I go faster. At first I thought the rotors we warped but when front brakes are applied the bike doesn't "bounce" when slowing down (rotors on my car are warped so I know what it feels like). Also, if I just barley pull the front break it's a constant rubbing (duh, lol) but it doesn't sound like it rubbing harder any any spots on the rotor. So could this just mean I need new brake pads? Or could it still be the rotors? Thanks

Cliffs:
06 1k with 4600 miles
rubbing noise from front end
gets faster with more speed
no "bounce" when slowing down
intermittent rubbing goes to constant when brakes are applied
does not rub harder in any spot when brakes are applied
rotors or pads?

Re: Rubs noise from rotors/breaks

Put the bike up on a front stand, see how much brake drag you have when you spin the front tire freely. Not many miles on the bike so i'd be surprised if your caliper seals are gone, but you may want to hit the pistons with some 'Brake Cleen' as sometimes road dirt/brake dust gets on them not allowing them to retract back into the caliper.

Re: Rubs noise from rotors/breaks

do I need to take off the brakes/calipers to clean them, or can I just shoot the brake cleen up in there?

Re: Rubs noise from rotors/breaks

At first I would just see how much brake drag you have, this will determine where the cause of the problem is. It might not be the brakes as it might be one of your bearings worn out from wheelies or whatever. Anyways, leave the calipers on and depress your front break you may have to tie the lever down if your by yourself. You'll have the caliper pistons extended and you can then just blast off the brake dust etc. Then just spin your front tire and grab some breaks a few times to see if you've eliminated the drag.

Hope this helps.
