Videos of my 96 Blade Transmission Rebuild..

Decided to rebuild my 96 Blade transmission.. consulted a few people including Bladeracer here (much appreciated mate!)on the forum.. scored some parts and a good mechanic/friend of mine let me use his shop and tools and looked over my shoulder from time to time to make sure I was on the right track.
Bike is back together runs and shifts really well.. Have done at least 3500kms on it since.. I filmed a bunch of the process.. and I am just editing up the vids when I have time..
2 of them are already done and on youtube.
here they are if anyone is interested.

Cheers
Ronno

Re: Videos of my 96 Blade Transmission Rebuild..

Yeah I did thanks in part to you!
Much appreciated again!
Its been shifting really well since the job was done..
Although as the next vid (3) will show, I had to scrap the idea of the 02 Hornet Trans. The trans I got came without a shifter barrel.. so when I put it in, it all fit and seemed to be fine but when we did a dry run if the shifting.. the cogs werent lining up.
The cogs were of differnet thickness than the 96 trans.. so the shifterforks werent moving over far enough with the older barrel.
I tried to source a barrel for the 02 hornet but it was on backorder here in Aus.. The wreckers didnt have one either.. so I had to order the replacement cogs for the 96 trans.. I ended up changing the barrel out for another 96 (it was also damaged) the forks worked well though, as did the selector shaft.. I was so close!! and then had to pull it all apart again and then sit there and take cogs off and rebuild the shafts washer by washer, cog by cog and circlip by circlip.. LOL

I certainly know my bike really well now.
and I have an 02 Hornet Transmission sitting here that I have to flog to someone now.

If anyone is interested. It will fit in with no issues in the 96-97 blade, mate up, the spline for the clutch basket is the same, the selector forks are the same, everything is the same.. but you need to get a barrel from the 02 hornet to make it work. ... let me know if you needs a good trans!
cheers
Ronno

Will do :-)
Let me know if you come across a registerable frame for a 1000RR, GSXR1000 or G-model ZX6R as well :-)

Dude The trans I have will fit in your bike..
You just have to get a shifter barrel for it
Everything slots right in
Its only got 700 miles on it (1000 kms)
came out of an 02-06 Hornet CB919
I had the trans in my bike and it all fit in perfectly.. Problem was i didnt have the right shifter barrel and locating on in Australia was impossible.
So I didnt use it.
I put up a post in the for sale section.

Re: Videos of my 96 Blade Transmission Rebuild..

The 1000's are race bikes on the WOVR so to register them I need to replace the frames. Any frame will do as it'd be easy and quicker to chase up whatever else I need to fit the bike than wait for a frame of the specific year to come available. I will need to chase up most of the road gear for them anyway so I'll get stuff to match whatever frames I can get.
The 1000RR is '04 and has to go but I might decide to hang onto the GSXR and race it next season for giggles.
The 600 is a '98/'99 with a slight bend in the frame - it has 23 degrees more rake than it was designed with :-) Probably any frame from '98 onwards would be usable for that one I reckon. I need to make a jig for the bent frame to determine if it's worth trying to fix it for a racebike.

Re: Videos of my 96 Blade Transmission Rebuild..

I'm not looking to sell it just yet :-)
In addition to needing the frame, it has no road gear at all, no plastics, instruments, mirrors, lights, alternator, starter motor, passenger seat and pegs, thermo fan or rear guard. The harness has been cut up and the race fairings are too patched up for resale in road trim in my opinion.
I've got a bunch of Ebay searches set up to watch for all the stuff I need for it over the next few months. I haven't decided which bike I'll race next season so I won't even be thinking about selling it until I make that descision :-)

It was very difficult to hear what you were saying because of the volume of the background music.Disappointing.
