93 cbr900 stops and goes and stops again

i was riding around for about 30 mins, then the bike just turned off. i had just put it gas, the petcock is clean, so is the fuel filter. i let it sit for a little while then the bike started again and continued working for the rest of the night. today, i rode maybe 5 miles one way and back and coming home the bike turned off again. i've noticed that its usually when i'm in a higher gear (4th, or 5th) and going maybe 40-60 mph. should i not be in a higher gear at lower speeds?

Welcome to the board.

Sounds to my untrained ear like a problem with the tank vent. When the bike stops, take off your helemt (so you can hear well) and open the tank. Do you hear air rushing in when you break the seal?

Re: 93 cbr900 stops and goes and stops again

check carbs and make sure your air/vacuum hoses are all connected properly

in the meantime, check your electrical connections too

Re: 93 cbr900 stops and goes and stops again

oh dude i may have the exact same problem, its strange.. sometimes when i start her up she warms up a little bit then just dies off, wont hold idle.

another time i was riding around for an hour no problems, temp got up to 103 celcius, then started to drop, but then the bike started to cough and splutter, i **** my pants cos i was far from home, i jumped on the freeway and kept the revs up around 7k and she was fine, duno if it had to do with the fuel or the air flow... dikheads at a bike shop near me put a new cam chain in and new thermistat, and problem wasnt fixed, so its back there now to get fixed, i will never take it back to these c%nts again

I had the same thing on my 1992 Baby Blade.. the fuel pump had an intermittant fault

So ordered a new one, and in the mean time as I needed the bike for work I took it out and ran the bike gravity fed for about 2 weeks.. She worked just fine without it I just made sure I kept the fuel topped up
