954 tear down

Well i have posted on here about my smoke under hard acceleration before and didnt get anywhere. So this winter im going to do compression test and also adjust valves and go threw the motor some. Possible take the heads off pending compression.

I will keep everyone posted on how this goes. It did make 141hp and 74lbft last year on the dyno. and this year with a differnt tune that was for the pipe it had i only make 136hp 71 lb ft.

It has smoke ever since i got it. Only under hard acceleration. If you pin it at any RPM 2k-14k no smoke at all. just under hard revs up. Looks black and grey. Didnt use any oil that i could measure either.

Oh well wish me luck

Re: 954 tear down

Black/gray smoke means its running rich. Mine does that too a tiny bit, and on the dyno with a sniffer it runs a little "fat " ( rich) at higher RPM's, which I don't mind. I got 138 HP with only a yosh slip on and a foam air filter that the previous owner put on.

Re: 954 tear down

I plan to take a photo of my 954 engine all laid out nicely on a white sheet before I start putting it back together :-)
I can tell you that there are 700 seperate parts in the engine!
