I would like to get as many opinions as possible

Hello Firebladers, I Have a question for you guys. I currently ride an 03 954rr and am going to purchase another blade in a few weeks. Besides the looks and the weight of the 07 and 08, what is the main difference in the two bikes, or is there a night and day difference in riding the two.

I can get a sweet deal on a brand new 07, or i can shell out a couple thousand more for an 08. If you have rode both, I would love to get your input on both the bikes.

Thanks in advance

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

The 08 is much more polished and steers alot lighter. As far as power the 08 is alittle faster, even though my 07 was higher on the dyno in stock form.. Go which ever one fits you best.. I like my 07 better but my 08 was better for the track..

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

I dident notice much of a difference in the power from the 07 to the 08 but the 08 puts it down to the ground alot better. And like Maholli said the bike just fells alot more polished, so much so that my friend that has an 07 with 16000 miles seat time on it jumped on my 08 and was noticibly faster. The bike just does everything perfect.

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

The 08 has slightly better ergos too. It's a totally new bike not just the skin in case you aren't aware. The style of the 07, which I still love, has been basically around since 2004. The 08 enters you into the new model for a few years anyways.

Unless you race the bike or many track days the 07 will serve you just as well.

You'll have to decide if it's worth $2000 but with a little shopping I think you could close that gap. Just saw an 08 with 1400 miles go for $7,600 on eBay.

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

Personally the 07 is a fantastic bike and I'm not knocking it in any way but...from reading many threads here the general opion is that the 08 is far better on handling and most other aspects. Also as Denzee said its a new model and will keep its looks for many years to come.

I wish I'd held out and bought an 08. Definately worth the extra $'s.

Do, or do not, there is no try !

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

i went from the 954 to the 05rr and now the 07 rr

I loved the 954 and never should have sold it. Great bike, prob the best blade ever, serously. The 954 is more easier to throw i think but a little bit down on low end power i think. All in all if you are after the fireblade experience you gotta have a 954 at some stage.

The 07 model is far better than the 04-05 model. But still, all are great bikes.

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

It depends what you want it for & what type of rider you are.
I recently bought a 954 but had previously ridden the 2004, 2007 & 2008 1000RR. The 2004 / 2005 was too tame as the gearing was wrong and had to be pulled over into corners. The 2006 / 2007 was much more responsive and cornered better. The new 2008 feels much smaller & lighter. It goes like hell, pulls power wheelies in 2nd gear and does three figures in 3rd gear and that was on small country-side roads! It's built to be top dog of the competition but it should be used on the track. It's too focused to be a leisure bike and I would not want to use it as daily transport.
ALL are good bikes but best to give both a good test ride and make your own mind up.

You're ugly.

The '08 is like a 600 but the power of a liter bike.

Re: I would like to get as many opinions as possible

Try them both out - read their reviews - not many people have ridden both the 07 AND the 08s (Unless you are lucky )

If you can't decide, either save up or buy some more 954RR mods

Not trying to disagree, but I disagree, kinda. . . The 08, while being focused as you say, is also very refined and easy to ride daily, as that is all I do if the weather is not too crazy. Doesn't require a lot of inputs, and lots of forgiveness. 3 digits in second gear; well into the three digits.

If you are looking for a sport bike, are a CBR fan, and already have it as an option, BUY THE 08! You'll never regret it. as somebody else said, it will be new for years to come. The bike that is targeted to beat. . . for now (07 is not that).
