First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

I bought my first street bike last week. It is a 2002 CBR 954RR that I purchased with 0 miles off the showroom floor.

Ride Motorsports had them on sale for $7699. My OTD price with freight, setup, tax and license was $9000.

MSF classes scheduled in 2 weeks.

Re: First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

Thats a pretty bike, I hope you can keep it that way. A 954 might be a LITTLE much for a first street bike, and no, the dirt is not the same. Just take it easy for the first couple of months and you will be fine. I normally recommend a 600 as a first bike. Plenty of power and the handling is very forgiving. Good luck and welcome to the org.

Congrads, that's a sweet ride. I know because I've got about 54,000 miles on my 02 954.

I look forward to corners like a dog waits for dinner…

Re: First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

I fully understand that a street bike is much more of an animal than a dirt bike. A friend of mine put it best when he said that I just bought a rattlesnake.

At 6 feet tall and 235 I thought the 600 would be too small in about 6 months.

At 38 years old, I am the last person that wants to get hurt. Pain sucks.

I feel the pain of tight ergo's as well

Sweet ride, I see that you also knew to buy the faster Red and Black!

As far as ergo's, being over 6'3" and right at 200lbs, I too feel the pain of the sport bike positions. The 600's were more than a little too tight. The 929 is marginal at best and that is why I was about 24hrs away from purchasing a ZX12R when I saw the 929 with 360mi in the paper locally and decided to go with the better deal. I get plenty of looks and questions about the bike being too small but when I point to the 929 on the rear, they seem to understand.

Be mindful of the crazy, no attention paying, cell phone talking, etc, etc, etc, cagers and enjoy the ride.

Can you say 6 in a ROW!!!!

Re: First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

Welcome, and congratulations on your purchase.

I'm curious to hear how you will experience it as your first streetbike, being a machine that I would recommend as an 'expert class' ride. You're never more than 10 seconds from triple digit speeds, so self control is a must.

Please review your safety gear and upgrade as necessary, and wear it all the time ! I'm sure you can get lots of insight from those on this board.

Be careful, smooth, and check in often !

Congratulations Blaine

You picked a great bike...and in the faster, Red/Black combination too.

Bikes and women - both have nice curves.

I have the same exact bike as you and it was my first bike as well.

Re: First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

Congrats on the new bike! You have to break it in anyway, so learn the bike, alternate the rpms, run it up some (you shouldn't baby it too much) on clear, cop-free straights, but mostly short-shift thru corners until you get comfortable. You've got plenty of time! I had to ride mine 300 highway miles after I bought it. The Cage people thought I was crazy. Race ahead, fall behind, repeat.

Re: First street bike, (CBR 954RR)

Welcome! Pretty ambitious first street bike, but if you play it smart you will love it like no other. It is an incredible machine, and although far faster than anything I've ever ridden before, I actually feel safer on it because of the great brakes, riding position and tight steering that give me a greater feeling of control than anything else I've tried. As a friend of mine says "Make sure your wrist doesn't write a check that your a$$ can't cash! (and watch out for idiot cagers! )
