Actual Length of an 08-09 Blade

Just curious what the total length of an 08-09 Blade is. I am buying a truck when i get back from deployment and i just want to know whether or not the bike will fit in the bed with the tailgate up or if I'm gonna have to buy one of those tailgate cages.

thanks in advance for the info...I tried to find this online, but all i can find are wheelbases, not actual tip to tip numbers, so if any of you have a tape measure and a few seconds the help will be greatly appreciated.

Wheelbase plus the radius of each tyre will give you the overall length from tyre to tyre.
Front wheel should be 300mm and rear should be 311mm so add 611mm to the wheelbase. If the rear guard extends past the tyre you'd have to add something for that.

Well if my math is right, then the Blade is roughly 80 inches long, which is 11 inches too long for me to close the tailgate of the truck I want. Oh well I'll live, eventually I'm gonna get a toy hauler for my bikes but for the short term the back of the truck willhave to do for towing duty to the track.

I thought the US military (all government authorities?) uses metric anyway?

Re: Actual Length of an 08-09 Blade

I just verified 80" with a tape. Turn the bars & it shortens the bike up a couple of inches. What's the width and length of the bed of the truck you are considering? The bike may just fit on the diagonal. If not, & you strap the bike properly you don't really need the tailgate. Just my 2 cents.

Get a ReadyRamp bed extender and kill two birds with one stone.

Re: Actual Length of an 08-09 Blade

Bladeracer,

Nah we dont use the metric system for much at all. Everything is pretty much SAE, inches, pounds, horsepower, etc. Hell even my micrometers for gauging shims are in SAE.

jschaf,

I'm buying a 2000-2001 Ford Ranger Supercab 4x4 which has a 5.75 foot bed with 40 inch width. I dont think even diagonally it will fit with the tailgate closed, even then i dont like that idea, so much since the tie down points get all screwed up.

red08,

thanks I'll look into that, just dont want to spend too much since eventually i will have my toy hauler for the bikes and my portable workshop

The Gerd,

Good luck with the tight fit. I was at the dealer's yesterday looking at the Repsol & it's quite a looker. I've got the black & yellow 08 myself. If it's not to much to ask, could you send some of that warm weather our way.

Re: Actual Length of an 08-09 Blade

Well, I'm currently in Thailand, and now that I have experienced a "soapy" first hand I can consider myself world traveled. This deployment has been pretty fun so far, weve hit Hong Kong, Kagoshima Japan, Pusan S.Korea, Guam, and now Thailand. Theres a few more ports of call on the list but cant really divulge that stuff.

The one thing I can say about the orient in general is it really is a different way of life out here from the US. So far everyone's been friendly, the food has been great (had Dimsum for the first time in Hong Kong, Gyoza in japan, the best chinese food ever in S.Korea, etc.), the weather has been good, Japan kinda sucked in the weather department it was cold and rainy the whole time.

But I cant wait to get back home and meet my 09 Blade for the first time...I was thinking of buying up all the parts i want for her at once, but I have to slow down now, since I've been given the opportunity to buy my buddy's 07 600RR for dirt cheap...want it for my track bike
