clutch install problem cbr 900rr

Please help
so im having an issue after replacing the clutch plates, springs and clutch cable. with the cable adjusted all the way out at the perch and at the clutch cover (no slack). the clutch will not disengage all the way when clutch is pulled in bike still wants to move forward alto the clutch is slipping some but not totally disengaging. once in gear i cannot get the bike into neutral without shutting it off. What could cause the clutch to stay parcialy engaged (its so close) with the clutch pulled in bike stays in place just lift my feet with out letting the clutch out and bike takes off but slips if i rev

is there a common mistake i might have made?
did the dealer give me the wrong clutch plates?
my bike is a 95cbr900rr made in dec of 95 should i have used the 96 clutch plates?
does any one know the difference in the 95 and 96 cbr900rr clutch?

Re: clutch install problem cbr 900rr

There was a model change between the 95 and 96 RR.

The changes were subtle yet significant, I would not interchange parts unless they have the same #'s.

If I were you I would start again from the begining... It is very easy to over-torque a clutch spring bolt and snap it off... I would take it back down and check the bolts. Use a reliable torque wrench and go from there...

Please... I am only going on experience and there may be a better explanation. Listen to them all and make an educated decision.

Re: clutch install problem cbr 900rr

yea there are some differences i have found in 95 to 96 but the real problem is im finding parts on this bike from both years (it had a petcock for 96 but when i replaced the stator it was 95) im afraid honda might have been running out of 95 parts by dec and they started using 96 parts so i recived some end of the year halfbreed
so if some one knows the difference in the two clutch's it might hep me fix my issue

are there the same # of plates in both of the kits for the 95 and 96?
are the clutch plates are a hair thinner on the 96?

Re: clutch install problem cbr 900rr

Yeah... I kinda simplified my answer. (Due to past exp.)

Q's

Did you replace the cable?
If so check the routing... If not check the cable.
There is a definite stacking of the plates...

Did you replace all of the plates?

yep new cable and routed the same as the old and im pretty sure 8 plates are the same and 1 is different total of 9 and the different 1 is the last to go in and i used the plates for the 95
funny tho the i replace the clutch cause its slippin get a new one and the thing wont disengage lol

Re: clutch install problem cbr 900rr

thanks for your help
I fixed the problem. I had the clutch plate with the larger inner diameter was in the wrong spot. it was supposed to go in first so the spring seat and judder spring can ride in side of it. i had it in as last plate instead of first.

No prob... I usually find that when I get the most frustrated it is best to go ahead and blame everyone else... sit back... blame the parts guy... and then decide to take a look at what I just did... ALTHOUGH... I have been in the middle of a deep sleep and just woke up and realized that I made a BIG mistake. (But still go through all of the above).

I'm sorry... I don't mean to make lite of your last problem it's just that we all do it... That's why we are here. Maybe the next time someone has the same problem you can offer your experience... I have put together motors so many times only to discover that I made a mistake that was so simple that if you don't laugh ... You GOTTA CRY!!!! (Well, a couple of times... )

This is a verse out of or at least should be put into a mechanics guide
I have woken myself many a night and realized something was either wrong or figured something out.
