intermittent cooling fan?? on 96 blade

hello i started noticing that my bike was heating up rather qiuickly when riding in the street and i noticed that my fan wont come on until my temp gauge goes up to about 85%, (100% being the the red hot marking) and when it comes on it starts and quickly stops then waits a while and then starts and quickly stops again? is this common what could this be?? also what kind of oil should i use? the bike was just serviced when i bought it but i just noticed that they left it a bit low what can i top it off with?? thanks allot for your help

think mine comes on about 70ish%.. and yes it does go off quickly.... but when i watch the gauge the tempriture has dropped past were the sensor registers it so alls good.... if i stuck in traffic on a hot day... it does the same as yours.. I.E on/off/waitabit/on....

... only time I got worried was when it nearly got to nearly 95ish% and no fan (sensor had gone... replaced and all good again)

As long as I fall, I don't hit the ground. As long as I fall, I'm safe & sound.
