fuel? manual says only needs 86 octane

my owners manual for the 929 says 86 octane minimum. apperantly that means i can run 87 without issue? I know that general rule for octane is use the lowest you can without sacrificing performance. will the bike care weather it had 91 or 87 in it? what about with a power commander.

I am on california gas and i have been putting 91 in it i was just wondering

Nope, the engine doesn't care.
I run 98 which is the highest pump fuel we can buy but I only do so because I get better fuel economy with it.
Higher octane fuels have other additives which can improve mileage and engine cleanliness so the octane rating is not the only thing to consider.

I take it your bike is a 2001 model.
Using a higher octane than recommended (assuming your engine runs on unleaded) will not harm it. It may affect the way it runs though, marginally better or worse depending on the bike.
Over here the standard unleaded is 95 octane going up to 99 & 102!
generally the high octane fuels also contain cleaning agents & maybe FMT which can be beneficial to you

If you bike has a knock sensor, then a higher octane can give you a slight power boost
