need help asap

i need help my 954 has a problem...heres how it started i was riding and my bike had a little trouble starting then it was cutting off when i reved it.so i rode it on the street and if i punched it anything above 6000 rpm it nose dived and turned the bike off ....so i got home saw a silver piece of metal sensor was just hanging.SO I bolted IT TO THE CHASIS and now the bike stayes running but hesitates low rpm, also the temp gauge is going nuts.when i rev it the temp reads 200 when i rev it it goes to 170 then jumps back to normal every time i throttle on it the temp lowers and the bikes not warming up...any ideas????????

Re: need help asap

It sounds like electrical if your gauges are going mad. Are you sure that 'silver piece of metal' isn't an earth cable? Where on the bike is it?

Re: need help asap

What colour are the wires? Is it just a metal 'tab' with a hole for a bolt? Does it come from the battery, or the loom?

Re: need help asap

Yeah it sounds like an earth wire, of which there are a few. A bad connection, or none at all in your case can throw up some wierd symptoms. Make sure it's clean and the frame where it bolts. If there's bits hanging off like that, it would be prudent to have the bodywork off and check other bolts. It depends on the condition and age of your bike, but checking connectors and earth points is a good idea every once in a while. I use silicone grease on electrical connectors to prevent or slow corrosion.

Re: need help asap

Leave the bike on the sidestand, the ignition on and the run/off switch on run. If it's showing a fault the MIL will flash repeatedly.

Re: need help asap

The earth points are returns for the electrical circuits on the bike, or the negetives.

I think that's the resistor for the LED tail light.

When you say "turned the bike off" do you mean it turns off the ignition or is the engine stalling?
Is the radiator full of coolant (just to rule out an actual temperature problem)?
