Fuel injection problem

I was just out riding my 2000 929 and the fuel injection light came on. It blinks on the dash 3 long then 5 short. Has anyone ever had this code before.

Re: Fuel injection problem

each long blink is actually ten blinks, so its code 35. This code is a faulty EGCV and motor air intake valve servo ie, the servo on the left side pulling the valves is having an issue. Either the gears are stripped or its electrical. Take the servo off, and simply run it with a 12V battery, if it works, check for continuity in the connectors/wires running to it from the ecm.

Re: Fuel injection problem

when you run a circuit with a 12V battery and the servo, i forgot to add that RED is + and BLUE is - in the servo connector.

Re: Fuel injection problem

if you want the servo to continue to pull the flapper in the airbox and the valves in the HTEV, then yes. First, check if the servo is broken, usually they arent cheap to replace. I just had this happen, i had code 34, basically same thing.

Its not very hard to re-attach the cables and get them lined up correctly so dont worry about it quite yet.

For accuracy, the EGCV is a very different system used on the 1000RR.
The 929/954 uses the HVIX system which includes the HTEV in the exhaust.
Otherwise, you're spot on :-)

Yes, adjusting the cables is part of normal maintenance anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.
Replacing the servo motor is not cheap - around US$200 from memory.
You could buy secondhand but I don't recommend it unless it's really cheap.
Whichever you do though _do not_ install a new motor until you have checked and cleaned the HTEV or it'll likely just burn out the new one as well.

Just undo the adjusting nuts on the bottom of the cables.
You could try removing the lock screw on the pulley and remove it from the motor without adjusting the cables at all.

Re: Fuel injection problem

at the htev, there is a banana shaped bracket that is bolted to it, undo it, its a 10mm, then youll have plenty of slack.

Re: Fuel injection problem

So i have been having my fi/malfunction light coming on, but it doesnt blink, just stays on. bike runs fine, i recently put a new motor in it. also, where does the idle air motor belong? the bike was apart when i got it, and it runs fine, idles fine, but the air valve isn't on there. is this whats throwing the code? if so, where does it attach?

Air valve and air idle motors sound like 600/1000RR items.
The 929/954 doesn't use the system so you won't need the motor.
You need to pull the code to know what the error is.
Since you bought the bike in pieces you do have a manual?

Re: Fuel injection problem

well the motor works when hooked up to 12 volts, i havent checked continuity yet. Could it be that the htev is carbon ed up and not rotating.
