Ok I need help to remove/replace my coolant/wetter...

Alright, assume I don't know anything, (which is not too far from the truth) and I need to winterize my race bike (at least so it does not break over the winter). It is going to remain here in Knoxville for at least another month, so I am either going to have to take to a shop to do it, or attempt to do it myself. If it is not too complicated, I might attempt to do it myself. Here is my situation. I have water wetter currently in my bike. Water wetter freezes easily, so I will need to remove/replace it during the winter months. First question, is do I need to replace it with coolant if I don't intend on riding/starting it? Can I just drain it and be done until the weather warms up? Or should I do the extra work and drain the wetter and replace with regular coolant, only to remove that same coolant in a couple of months?

Or should I not even attempt this because I don't have a warm place to do this, and the wetter might not drain properly in cold temp. Take it to a shop and have them do it??

Please advise...

Re: Ok I need help to remove/replace my coolant/wetter...

There is no need to fill the system with coolant. Just drain it. The steps outlined in the other thread is all you need to do. Pop off the lower rad hose, crank the bike a few times and you're good to go. Yes, the water/water wetter mixture will flow right out in cold temps.
Add some Sta-Bil to your tank before cranking it over and you'll kill two birds with one stone.

Am I cranking with the kill switch off or on. Abtech mentioned only hitting the start with kill off..dry crank or something.

It honestly doesn't matter much. It only needs to crank for a couple seconds to get the water out of the pump and the Sta-Bil into the injectors. You could do it either way. It won't hurt the bike if it fires up, just shut it off.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to the easiest way to drain the wetter? Pictures will also be very helpful...like which hose...and where is the drain plug??

Drop the lower and find out which side has the lowest hose (I can't recall). Open the radiator cap and then loosen the hoseclamp at the engine on the lower hose. Get a big drain pan and place it under the hose/flange junction, but far enough away from the bike that it will catch the stream of water. Pop off the hose and let it drain until it stops. Now crank the engine for a few revs and some more water should come out.

Put a sticker on the tank that says: NO WATER!!!!!

Re: Ok I need help to remove/replace my coolant/wetter...

And I am going to throw in some straight coolant anyway...just for the hell of it...mainly as a corrosion inhibitor...
