520 kit....?

So Ive heard of a lot of people going 2 up in the rear and 1 down in the front and finding a new passion for there bikes. Is this a 520 coversion kit? If I want to go 2 up and 1 down what do I need? I know nothing about chains and sprockets, all I know is to lube mine all the time and adjust accordingly. How much does it change the bike...Ive heard a ton, true? And you must lose top end pull right? How much?

Re: 520 kit....?

520 refers to chain width, most people replace the sprockets/chain as a kit. Stock is wider than 520, im not sure about the 929 but its probably 530, hence more rotating mass and power loss though its fairly minimal.

Yes, you will lose some top end end, i went a tooth down on mine in the front and im pretty happy with it, minimal difference at highway speed and more grunt down low, you can usually order a chain/sprocket kit with any combination of teeth for the same price

Re: 520 kit....?

you lose top end speed because of the gearing reduction, but the plus side is getting into the power sooner. most people like it because how often if ever on the road do you get the chance to go over 150mph but getting up to speed quicker is always more fun!
