Exhaust Questions for 954RR

Just got my first bike 03 954RR. The past owner cut the original exhaust down in size and took out all the internals. Its pretty raspy now. (and i cant imagine this is great for performance) I would like to get a new bolt on exhuast. I do NOT want a full exhuast. Just a new muffler. I love the way the two brothers M2 & M5 mufflers look (i like small and compact) But the most important thing i want is tone. I like a smooth deep rumble. What does everyone recomend? Is there certain exhuasts that I should stay away from so i dont get that raspy sound?

yea im getting alot of that recently....people say its too big. But I am a larger guy 6' 260lbs so i just look goofy on 600's. Ive gotten the hang of it pretty well. Been riding for about 2 weeks every day for about 2-3 hrs....finally not afraid of 1st gear anymore. Still dont have the balls to bring it up though. I think that kind of stuff can wait till the spring though

keep the front on the ground, dont get into wheelies plus on this site the topic is not a welcome when done on public streets.

Re: Exhaust Questions for 954RR

IF you don't want loud and obnoxious stay away from D&D, they are extremely loud. I have 2 cans I am looking at getting rid of. One is a flawless 2 bro's carbon and the other is an Erion Racing can that has a few scratches.

If interested PM me.

I also have the RT-1 and I think it sounds great.

Re: Exhaust Questions for 954RR

I second the notion about the D&D, way too loud on just about any bike for that matter. I have a Erion Bolt-on on my '03 954 and love it, nice and throaty at low RPM and pretty nice sounding once you get up in the RPMs

Re: Exhaust Questions for 954RR

on the Jardine, its what the factory teams used back then.

And about the 954 or any other liter for a first bike...its not about the bike, its about who's attached to it, its all about knowing your skills and limits....and then pushing them

Re: Exhaust Questions for 954RR

as far as a bolt on can for the stock system you can't go wrong with a yoshimura rs3, sounds super deep but not loud at all below 8000rpm and you don't need a power commander. the build quality is way better than the jardine or the two bros and it will last longer. don't worry about being a squid on a 954, most of the newer 600s are just as hard to ride as the liter bikes.

Re: Exhaust Questions for 954RR

I have a micron and love it!!!
It's quite mello at lower rpms but gets pretty wicked sounding the higher the revs get!!!!
You say you are to big for a 600? The 954 is pretty much the same size as a 600!!!! Just ALOT more throttle, I'm sure you are finding out. Just be smart!!!
It's about so much more than hitting redline in first and maybe second. Ride safe !!!!!!!!! The 954 is real twitchy it can get you in trouble before you realize Wtf. Espescially if your new to street riding. I always laugh at someone who Says "I can't ride or drive that cuz it's to fast" well your in control of how fast it is!!!!!!!!! I'll shut up now but I do like my micron!
