How to change clutch linkage?

I got a complete set of linkage, the lever, and chain guard off of ebay (for $25!!!!) and I'm wondering the best way to go about this. I won't even attempt to use technical terms to describe how I'm thinking of doing this, but I wanted to ask here first. So, anyone got some knowledge to kick to me?! Thanks! Oh and this is on an 03' 954RR!

Edit- Pain in the ass but I got it, thanks anyway guys!

Clutch linkage?
Do you mean the shift linkage perhaps?

Re: How to change clutch linkage?

Sure did, that's why I tried to keep as little technical terms as I could in it, haha.

First, take a photo or punch a dot on the frame in the position you want the lever if you have it set up where you like it.
Remove the 10mm bolt in the rose joint and pull it off the spline. Remove the two bolts retaining the rearset so you can access the bolt in the end of the footpeg. You may need to merely loosen the rearset bolts but leave the rearset on just to crack the bolt if it's tight (if it's still factory tight I think it's Loktited). Pull the peg off, slide the shift lever over the peg and reattach the peg to the rearset and the rearset to the frame. If there's no grease in there put a dab of grease in the groove around the footpeg shaft before sliding it through the lever. Put the new rose joint on the spline and put the 10mm bolt back in. There will be a dot on the end of the splined shaft that should line up with the slot in the rose joint - check it's position beforehand though. If the spline is a litle tight you can tap a flat-blade screwdriver into the slot to spread it _slightly_ but it should come off fairly easily.
If the lever is not where you prefer it, loosen the locknut at each end of the linkage rod and twist the rod to shorten or lengthen it, then tighten the locknuts again. One locknut should be reverse thread.

Re: How to change clutch linkage?

I go it earlier. My only concern was getting the rose joint off the spline, I just bent back the fairing a littttleeee bit and a curved 10mm wrench grabbed it just fine. I just didn't want to have to take that fairing off to change that out!

Thanks for the entire explanation though, this place is a lot more helpful than other forums I've been on. It's my first bike, so expect tons more noob questions!
