954 into a 929?

hello out there
Ive picked up a 929 w/a popped motor
will a 954 long block be a direct fit in my 929 frame?
and will all the 929 intake, header, trans, mount up?

whats involved in doin this swap?
how about the plastics fitting?would it be best to just stick with the 929 motor?

Re: 954 into a 929?

'Pad - From what I'm able to find out, the 954 was a complete re-design from the 929, with very little interchangeability of parts between them. I believe the injector were 3 mm larger on the 954. Not sure about motor mounts or electronics, though. Good luck!

The bikes aren't similar at all but the engines are. They're both the same design so are swappable. Cams, rods, head, crank, clutch, transmission, oil pump, water pump, clutch cover, oil cooler and oil pan are all interchangeable as far as I'm aware. Stator, rotor and stator cover are not.
It's not necessary to run 954 throttle bodies if you don't want to but I would expect stronger topend with the bigger throttle bodies.
I don't know how injectors are measured in mm (they're usually measured by flow rate?) but there is definately not 3mm difference - although I do believe the 954's are slightly bigger.
The throttle bodies are 40mm and 42mm.

Doesn't have to look nice to be loved - mine all look like crap :-)

Re: 954 into a 929?

Bladeracer - After your post about the engines being of the same design, I went back to my sources, and sure 'nuff, you were right! When you mentioned injectors, I must have been inaccurate in my description; I was speaking of injector body throat size. My source said 43 mm for a 954; whataya gonna do when ya get bad info? Sorry!

Re: 954 into a 929?

You mean throttle body throat size, not injector.

Also, my 929 looks like a total piece of **** but runs damn well... nothing wrong with that.
