o-rings

hey ladies and gents i got a 98 900rr that has been sitting for quite some time, well the other day i go into starting her up and when i put the fuel tank on and opened the fuel valve the plastic "T's" between carburators 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 are leaking fuel pretty good. are those o-rings special or can i use o-rings from a local automotive store? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I would think they'd be fine but check that they're compatible with fuel.

i have tried to remove these carbs but just can't seem to get them off. i have an actual Honda CBR900RR service manual and have followed the steps, but with no result. i tried using a screwdriver style pry bar but i didn't apply very much pressure in fear of cracking the magnesium valve cover, i had thought about putting a piece of aluminum plate over the valve cover and try more pressure with the pry bar but i thought that magnesium will crack easily, is there any other suggestion? THANKS!!

If they've never been off before they can be very tough. Try wriggling them up and down and concentrate on pulling one of the end ones out first. It might help to warm the intake manifolds with a hair dryer to soften them but I've never tried it myself. You shouldn't need to lever against anything. If you can get to the intake manifold clamps you can try removing those as well and see if they come off more easily. Make sure the clamps are very loose as the carbs have a lip around them.

THANKS bladeracer, yeah they have never been off the bike and these carbs feel so solidly mounted even though the boots is the only thing holding on. i can't get to the clamps on the motor side of the boots. i'll have to try a hair dryer.

the carbs will come off will just take some work I have found if you spray a little wd-40 around the top of the boots and let it sit for a day it will aid in letting the boots flex alittle more and give up there death grip. As for the O- rings make sure you use ones approved for fuel and that they are metric there is a big difference and it could cause you more problems using the wrong ones

well the hair dryer worked, i took a hair dryer and warmed up the boots for about 15 minutes and then started wiggling them up and down and it seamed like the death grip came loose and then i used my screwdriver pry bar to leverage against the edge of the frame onto the nuts on that long bolt that holds all of the carbs together and they poped right out. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP EVERYONE
