You got your money's worth there!

Out of interest, what would the police do if they saw a tyre like that being used on the road? Over here we have a legal minimum of 1mm tread, so that tyre would not have been road legal for some time now. If you are caught here it's 3 points on your licence and up to 2000 fine for EACH tyre below the legal limit! (12 points = banned).

I've got just about 8 thousand miles on my Diablo Corsa III's right now, and there's still tread left! And that's with the 190/55 on the rear!

You definately can get a ticket for it, but just a fine, no points.

Hmm, so depending on the size of the fine and the likelihood of being caught, it might be worth the risk of running a tyre to the cords over there....

For me the points are the main issue, I run my tyres to the 1mm limit but that's it.

I'm always sceptical of high mile claims with tyres - it's the number of legal miles I am interested in, this tyre has probably done half of the miles below the 1mm limit we have over here so the 9000 mile claim is pretty irrelevant to me.

Its probably more the luck of the draw...if the cop that pulls you over doesn't know his ass from his elbow, he will never notice, but sometimes there is the one who does know something about bikes and will either write you a ticket or give you a warning depending on what he saw you do and how much it pissed him off. Fine is probably about $100.

LOL, $100 to double the life of your tyre!! If that was the penalty we faced, I would run my tyres to the cords as well! Seems a risk worth taking to me.

A I said, we get 3 points and a fine of up to 2000 - the points stay 'active' on your licence for 3 years, but insurance companies bump up your premiums for the next 5 years. This penalty far outweighs the risk/benefit IMHO.

Re: 9,000 miles on pirelli diablos

That's incredible miles. You must be awefully easy on hard acceleration to achieve that. I don't think I've seen over 3,000 miles on a tire. I don't do burnouts or anything silly either. I just run hard when I ride and the tire is worn from one edge to the other. I have one coming off now and I'll try to post some pics.

Re: 9,000 miles on pirelli diablos

i was beginning to worry til i saw denzee's post. i though i was getting poor mileage out of my rear tire. i changed it about 3-4k ago and the thread is pretty much gone. first i thought it could be because it's a 200, however when i ride i accelerate hard so that could alo decrease its life.

Actually a fine here would be highly unlikely unless you were being an likely they would point it out for your safety. The biggest issue running one that far is that it would have been hydroplaning in the slightest rain for a long time.
