Tires past their prime?

I am a bit uncertain if I should change my tires before the 2004 riding-season(I'm in no hurry yet ) starts, or if it is safe start the new season with the rubber I rounded of last year with..

I'm thinking of heat cycles and if this will make the tires grip much worse if the have been relatively hot a few times. The tires in question are BT012's.

Here is a pic of both the front and the rear:

Re: Tires past their prime?

My original Bt12s looked much worse than that before I threw them out...if it were me I'd continue to run them. Go easy on them at first. You should be able to feel how the tire is as you increase your aggressiveness...

Re: Tires past their prime?

I usually don't run a set of tires any more than a season. I don't trust them sitting over winter developing cracks and such. I'll use them for the first few weeks 'til I'm still tip-toeing around, then I get a new set mounted.

Yours looks fine, but if it gets like this...then change it.

Bikes and women - both have nice curves.
