954 project

I'm not sure that this would be the section for this, I looked though and didn't find any sort of project forum. My buddy totalled his 954, identical to mine, and now it has become kind of a joint project to rebuild it (his bike, but I have the tools and the space to work on it, plus I enjoy learning about and the satisfaction of figuring stuff like this out). I would like to get some help from you guys and maybe do a step by step update as we go

so far it definitely needs:
all new fairings
at least the right side engine cover (probably the whole engine, but hope not)
upper fairing stay
levers
right side fairing mount
left side engine mount
front wheel
maybe handlebars
gas tank may be able to be painted and saved (no holes, but the scuffs are pretty deep)

basically hoping for some ideas from you guys on possible solutions, or ideas on upgrades since it's basically a clean slate that we're starting with, the sky is the limit

Re: 954 project

Sweet! What about 848 fiberglass race fairings and doing dual projectors for headlights?

848 fairings dont look like they'd fit correctly. I wouldn't mind some modification and all but they look way off

and as an update, it does need the whole motor...

Re: 954 project

Well sure they wont fit to the stock brackets but since yours/your buddy's are all bent/broken, why not make new ones and hang sweeeet fairings from them?

What is wrong with the motor?

They just look like the rears are much shorter than the 954s. And the motor's cracked underneath. The guy at the honda shop thought it could be saved but there was another one we didn't notice at first. Sucks

That's too bad about the motor. If its the oil pan though, its a simple fix.

Do you have access to fabrication tools (bandsaw, grinders, welding, bending etc)?

Its dark and taken with my phone, I'll try to remember to take better ones in the morning. It looked worse before I took the plastics off

Yeah, I have access to the majority of that stuff. Its not the oil pan though. The hope was that we would be able to cut the case in half and weld on a new one but the cracks don't allow for it

Re: 954 project

I'd have a reputable machine shop look at the lower case cracks to see if they can be welded. Had that done on a few bikes and it worked fine.

No, the 954's engine is used as a mount for the swingarm, while the 1000rr is not.
