Paranoid? Red-hot headers on 954 with hindle

I've had my 954 for roughly a month, bought it needing a FPR, replaced it and it runs great now but I noticed the headers get red hot on the far left and right (1 and 4 I assume) pretty easily. The bike temp is fine, basically I'm just trying to make sure there's nothing wrong I need to address before it becomes a major problem

By "red hot" you mean they're glowing red?
Put an infrared thermometer on them.
My headers run around 270C where they come out of the head.

yeah, even at low rpms they get slightly red. Middle 2 don't though

that's a good idea, now I just gotta find somebody that has one

Have you had it mapped for the Hindle exhaust? Its common for the outer two cylinders to run hotter than the middle but they shouldn't be getting hot enough to glow. Sounds like it could be running slightly lean.

I was thinking that as well. I contacted the original owner who custom mapped it on a dyno to get a copy of the map to reload it. Thanks for the reply, i hope thats it

In the meantime you could just try to increase it through the buttons a couple of points and see if that helps.

Re: Paranoid? Red-hot headers on 954 with hindle

also what kind of system is it?? is it titainium? This may make a difference is actually seeing the pipes get hot. The titainium pipes are usually thinner than systems made of steel or aluminum so the pipes will heat up and loose the heat differently.

The odd thing is the outer headers glowing and the inner ones are not....so I would have a dyno shop tune your bike to make sure the fuel to air ratio is good throughout your rpm range

it is the stainless system but the hindle ones are supposedly pretty thin to reduce weight

I turned up the ratio on the PC3 and now they don't get as red at low RPMs and at mid RPMs they still do and the middle pipes do as well, but still not quite as red as the outer ones...

well then....I would suggest getting your bike on a dyno and have it mapped correctly so you don't burn up your bike. A couple hundred bucks to make it right for years/miles of enjoyment or keep the cash for engine repairs sometime in the near future.
