Damn thing wont start.

Ok, I feel like a such a newb but it's because I am.

Here's the deal, hope you can help.

Turn the key
head lights come on, hud doesn't come up but the back light for the instrument panel does.
Push to start, doesn't start, head lights go off, panel lights go off
press clutch and push to start panel lights go on and then come off when i release the switch.

I now have to wait a bit or else when i turn the key no lights come up.
Battery is good so says my trickle charger. Checked and chainged the fuses, I blew a 30 yesterday but replaced it earlier tonight.

I also get this great, winding down kinda noise when the lights come on and then slight click and nothing.

Sorry for the blatantly ignorant post but I was hoping to take it for a ride in the industrial park behind my apartment tonight.
Thanks.

Sounds like the battery may need replacing.

Re: Damn thing wont start.

What you are describing doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but let's try to take this one step at a time.
When you insert your key and turn the ignition to on, do you hear the 'whirring' noise for a couple seconds? If so, good. That is your fuel pump.
Step two, is your kill switch on run or kill?
Your headlights should be on, as should the lights on your dash. Are they? If not, we have an electrical problem.
If your kill switch is in the run position, and your dash is working, pull in your clutch lever and press the start button.
What happens?

Yes the whirring noise is on for a couple of seconds.
My kill switch is on run.
my headlights only come on for a couple of seconds. then the tick off.
The lights on my dash come on, but not the display.
The kill switch is in run, my dash working, pull clutch and press start. nothing happens. (by this time my headlights have already cut out).

Re: Damn thing wont start.

From that I am inclined to think it is the battery. You could try to bump start it if you dare, the battery should have enough juice to start it that way, but I'd just advise charging your battery for a few hours and go from there.

Alright, here's to charging and pleading ignorance to the dealership tomorrow AM if that doesn't work. Thanks.

Another vote for the battery.

This might be a dumb question, but you did hear/see the bike run before you bought it, right?

The guy from the dealership rode it to my house. 4 hours later, wouldn't start. I probably should have mentioned that. once again my newb is showing *tucks it in*

Do you know how long it sat before you bought it?

Not more than 90 days because the parts manager told me he woulda bought it if it would have sat. Could be 89 days for all I know but I do know it wasn't over 90.

Re: Damn thing wont start.

Enough time for the battery to die. If I were you, I'd call the dealer tomorrow and tell him they owe you a battery.

10-4 on that one. I must say, I thought my "first post" post was nice, and you guys were friendly and seemed pretty smart, but I have to say, you guys rock with all the help.

Sounds good to me. The battery is a couple of years old. If it's been sitting that's probably it. It's the easiest thing to look into first. Major problems on a few year old Honda are rare, unless it was really abused or something. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
