Help testing stator with Harbor freight tester please

Hi, my 929 quit charging about 200 miles from home last weekend. When I realized it because the bike wouldn't turn over after gassing up I turned and headed toward home after push starting it. I made it about another hour and it started bucking and came to a stop. I got it home on a trailer and charged my battery. The battery is fine, I just bought a harbor freight tester and I have a factory service manual to test the stator and regulator. The problem is the service manual is very vague as far as what I need to set the tester on to perform the tests. The brand name is Cen-tech digital multimeter. There are a lot of options on the tester itself and i'm kinda lost on how to use it. The instructions that came with the tester don't tell me jack either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help testing stator with Harbor freight tester please

Put the multimeter to 20 DCV, then start the bike, and at 5000 rpm, it should read ~15.5V.

If not, there's a charging problem, either the stator or R/R
