weird vibration

Was reading through forums and didn't find answer to my 929 blade's vibration. At idle if bike is in neutral or just driving very slowly in gear bike starts to vibrate and gets much vorse around 4.5k rpm. Also I can hear weak rattling noise from cutch cover side when idling and in nuetral. But once i pull in the clutch lever all problems go away not even clutch basket's coil spring rattling, nothing...
Is it gonna be a case of clutch friction plate's replacement or it might be something more serious? bike has 29k miles on it. Also is it possible to check clutch without draining oil, for example when bike is on kick stand and all oil is on the left side of engine? Has anyone tried it?
Thanks for opinions :]

Re: weird vibration

spina220 thanks for reply :] I read somewhere that 00-01 929 blades had recalls for clutch baskets. Is it possible that previous owners missed it out? Hmm..new or second hand clutch basket?

My 929 did not have a clutch basket recall......but that is what it sounds like....did you pull the cover off yet?

Re: weird vibration

Checked web page Recall Details for HONDA MOTORCYCLES - CBR900RRY & CBR900RR1 and found out that mine one supposed to have it done. Gonna pull the cover off on sunday and will see what I find... now thinking what could be wrong with clutch basket... Badly worn't out springs? or bearing? Friction plates shoud be all good as there is no clutch slip... Luckily got that special tool for clutch removal, had some fun with my old zzr600...

Ahhhh I think I get it now....US model no recall for basket..........I had this happen to me, not on my 929 but on a 01 gsxr 750....wide open in 5th gear on the banking at Daytona......my clutch was not slipping either.....I heard a pop and felt a "weird vibration" no one had a clue and a good bud of mine that is an amazing moto mechanic told me to pull my clutch cover off and sure enough there was a chunk broken off the basket.

Re: weird vibration

Phoned honda to find out about recall and it was done years ago :] today I've noticed that it starts to vibrate only when engine warms up to above 70... tomorrow will open that can of worms

Re: weird vibration

To answer another of your questions,no...you do not have to drain the oil to remove the clutch cover.
As you use the sidestand the angle of the bike leaves the clutch et al "dry"

Re: weird vibration

I set the bike down on it's side on top of 2 rows of tires.....but if there is pieces of anything laying in there you will want to change the oil anyway.

Re: weird vibration

So opened up the clutch cover today, no oil came out and from the first sight nothing was wrong with bike, the friction and steel plates all good. Then I removed the clutch basket and it was really weird to her loud rattle, 4 out of 6 springs were extremely loose, you could move them with finger easily, it felt like a pebble in a can so that explains the rattle noise from clutch under acceleration, but would it cause that weird vibration? Also when I was putting it back on, the sub-gear needed to be tensioned in order to align gear teeth, and when I aligned them properly i was always making that click sound when the tips of gears were aligned. It felt like the sound was coming from cam chain tensioner... Is that noise normal or it means that my CCT is about to give up?

Re: weird vibration

CanŽt speak for the newer Blade engines but the older ones at least do not use a ratchet type CCT. Ie,i would be hard pressed to think it could omit that kind of sound.

Re: weird vibration

Is that normal that two clutch basket's coils springs are properly seated and stiff, while other four are very loose? At the moment it can be used as music instrument if you shake it

Re: weird vibration

Right now things became interesting... Today a new clutch basket arrived! but the same four springs out of six rattle... but little bit less then on the old basket... In my opinion they shouldn't rattle at all on the new basket... Does anyone came across new clutch basket? Should those coil springs rattle or not?

Re: weird vibration

Slightly. If you look close at the primary gear youŽll notice how thereŽs two parts of it. The rear one is springloaded.
In short, install and check for any lash in either direction.
