929 stator casing issues HELP PLEASE

Need help!!

Dropped the bike on the left side and needed to replace casing and stator
When i bolt up the casing it locks up the engine! Turns over ok when the casing is off. I got a used casing and i'm thinking it could be bent and pinching the idler gear for the starter??
I didnt replace the gasket i just used instant gasket crap, could this cause any clearance probs? I removed the stator from the casing altogether and tried it and its still the same, there is a hairline crack inside the cover so must of got a bit of a bang but doesnt look out of shape.

Tried turning it over with no casing and it isnt turning freely, seems to catch slightly at a certain point. Could the flywheel be bent??

Put the cover on and back the screws out one turn each and see if it spins.
I would definately use a gasket.

Re: 929 stator casing issues HELP PLEASE

have done that mate, with the cover loose you can see it move a bit. that shouldnt happen i presume?

My thinking is the flywheel/ringgear is a bit bent causing it to get too tight at a certain point with the idler gear....Get a new flywheel and gasket and try again perhaps?

That or the crank is damaged which aint going to be worth doing. I'm in a huge hole with this now i have got a new side fairing, nose cone and tail piece and now this happens

You do have the locating dowels installed?
If it's touching something you should be able to see some witness marks.

Re: 929 stator casing issues HELP PLEASE

Turned out the flywheel/ring gear was the problem must have been slightly bent causing it to get tight on the idler at a certain point. Its turning over perfect now

Thanks for the help
