About a week ago, I said to my wife that I needed something to chase our son around on. She said okay. Me being the skeptical type didn't do much with it but I started looking around. I was confused with options.
Then one day, I was tired and took a nap. I awoke and said to my wife, "you said I could get a dirt bike...". She muttered something...it was approval. I was satisfied and was going to squeeze the trigger.
I asked for an opinion and was told that a CRF230 would be a great option for me.
I found one on Craigslist with a $2k asking promising to be in tip-top shape and well maintained. The seller was skittish, but agreeable. We met yesterday. I had my mechanic with me and he found a few small items needing tending to. I do wish he'd checked the items that he asked about rather than take the seller's word for it (like air filter and battery condition) so I'd have a better foreknowledge of my cash outlay after purchase.
I showed the seller the NADA value at a little over 1,000 retail and the KBB value at 1790 (excellent) retail. He took my 1st offer at $1,500!
The bike included an aluminum ramp, which I didn't really need,
but hey. My mechanic took the bike away to his shop for corrections and a new front tire and we went home.
Was this a square deal?
Oh, and since I've got a trackday coming up, I'm thinking about putting slicks on it so I can run both bikes.
