1981 Honda XL185S Hard to start cold
Hey all, Ive got a 1981 xl185 thats a real pain in the leg to start when the bike has sat long enough to completely cool. When its warm its a one kick bike. Even when trying to cold start, I cant use any throttle, choke lever doesnt change anything, and I have to kick over and over and over again until it finally catches idle.
Heres a list of what Ive done:
Carb rebuild and ultrasonic clean. All new rubbers, needle, shim, and main jet adjusted for altitude. Pilot jet appears permanent as it doesnt have a slot for a screwdriver or faces for a wrench.
New battery, and charging system verified, charges at 6.8v idle, and 8v with throttle
New performance camshaft from Bikerchics eBay. Original one was damaged from timing advance mechanism breaking
Valve clearances set as per manual.
Camchain tensioner set
Decompression cable set
Used timing advance mechanism and pickup coil
Previous owner installed new spark plug.
Once the bike actually catches and holds an idle, its very easy to start again, and rips 90% through the rpm band. Kinda falters at high rpm full throttle, but is able to get me to 50mph, and pull clutch wheelies in 1st gear. What's my issue do you think???
