Smoke and Hot engine Honda CT125

Hi there, I need some help with my Honda CT125 1987 engine.
Firstly, the engine after a short ride gets so hot that you cant leave you hand on it anywhere for more than a couple of seconds and secondly it smokes quite badly when going up hills.
I have included some pics of the piston (a bit of wear) and also the build up of carbon (I cleaned the carbon off only a few months ago and I dont use it very much). If you have any ideas please let me know!

The smoke is a white-gray colour sometimes with a bit of blue.

Re: Smoke and Hot engine Honda CT125

Thats not 'a bit of wear', thats a partial seizure.
Check the bore for wear, if its well over a new cylinder, piston and rings are needed.
That will stop the oil burning, but I would also sugest a close look at the oil pump or check for a clogged oil filter. The engine is getting mad hot because of poor lubrication. I would, naturally, check that the ignition is not over-advanced, but I would concentrate on getting the piston group and oil supply sorted.

Why would you expect the engine to be cool enough to touch? It only takes around 50C to burn skin and the engine will definately be hotter than that. The header pipe could be over 200C.
That piston is damaged due to nipping the bore or ingesting some debris.
Is the air filter clean and fairly new?
How exactly did you clean the carbon off the piston?
Did you remove the piston from the engine when you did it?
Did you do compression and leak down tests when you had it apart?
How old are the valve guide seals?
