not sure about the 08 1000RR but my brother's 2004 has a hydraulic clutch. Is your hydraulic? I hear those 08's have a ton of issues, not to scare you.
3900 is super premature for clutch issues, do what Kevin says, if its hydraulic try bleeding the fluid lines.

sounds like the cable might just need replacing or adjusting. at least id check that before i went replacing the clutch.

I got 99 problems and my CBR's 1...

Bought a 2008 CBR1000rr, for a great price, with 3900 miles on it a couple weeks ago. Clutch seemed different to me and seemed to engage at the last 1/4"-1/8" of the lever action. Very little friction zone.

Took to Honda, mech rode it, says it seems normal.

Riding down I-10 and I am in 4th I hit the throttle hard, and the bike revs from 5krpm to 8krpm then back to 5krpm before speeding up, happens very fast and no I am not loosing tire traction doing so.

Anyone heard of this problem, and/or help. Or do I just convince Honda to replace my clutch and the assembly.
