So I have worked out why it wasn't locking. I didn't have the brackets in the correct place. Spring can wait for now, but thanks for the link @Gunk .

Thanks Gunk, when the seat came off, I am pretty sure the spring was on the other side and attached to the hook. I'll try the other side in the morning.

I thought I would keep this separate from my other issue!

After replacing the charging system I started putting the bodywork back together, but now I am having trouble with the returning spring and the lock on the pillion seat.

Does anyone have a photo of the underneath of the pillion seat so I can see how the spring was attached?
