Re: 929 Headlight not Working Back again! I ended up fixing this by resoldering that loose wire. But with the cheapy solder and gun, it came loose again. As a troubleshoot, I tried to use my cheapy solder iron to melt the factory solder on the other wires, and it didn't even make a dent! If resoldering, make sure you get the "good stuff", otherwise it'll keep coming loose. I ended up just bypassing the whole thing. Which only prevents the headlight from shutting off when you push the starter button to start the engine, to allow more juice to the starter. But it still starts like a champ! On a different subject, anyone know how to remove all the CA emissions equip. on a 2001 CBR929RR? |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Thanks for all the great advice...I was gonna take it to the shop, but went downstairs pop out two screws and low and behold that one wire circled in red above wasn't sodered anymore, so 5 minutes tomorrow and headlights will work! Thanks for all the help! |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Right on! I'll try it again. The wire has enough play it just keeps popping right back off after a day or so. The only thing I really have not done was clean it good first. |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Welcome to the Forum! If the solder joint keeps breaking, check if the wire is under any sort of tension. Otherwise, clean the contact surfaces and try again... |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working First of all this is an awesome forum! I just found you guys by doing some searches about this subject. I'm having the same problems everyone else is it seems. I have soldered the wire back on my cut out switch about 3 times now. Has anyone else been through that? I really thought my soldering skills weren't that bad! Am I using the wrong type of solder? I'd really rather not bypass the whole thing just cause I have always kept my bike in perfect factory condition and I am the type of person that would rather not have things "rigged" like that if I don't have to. I'm just about to do it though! Lucky every time the wire has come loose it was day time and it was really no big deal to get home with no light. Id rather not ride without a light due to the fact that I ride about 180 miles a day in heavy traffic and like to know cars can see me as best as passable. I fear the night it leaves me stranded though and would like to fix this once and for all. Any help would be great! |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Great thread! I just lost all my headlights, and did the bridge thing where the relay is and got high beams only. Everything else works, and been checking fuses, bulbs, connectors, wires, harnesses, even popped for a new relay thinking it was that. But now I'll check out the starter switch area. Hopefully it works! May be back with a question or two... |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working +1 for the 24-pin connector. I suspected it, as the lights flashed when wiggled, but only once. I was afraid to pry it apart, but did after reading this thread. Is it the Black/Red wire and the White wire? I have a really bad spot on my wiring diagram and I cannot tell if that is the one. I agree, I have "fixed" this problem a few times with soldering but I dont trust it, its too tight in there and not enough wire to get a good clean connection. Edit: I know this is a old thread, but its a really really common problem so it would be nice to have another option to finally fix it. |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Those aftermarket bulbs just draw a LOT of current through the ground circuit. I am splicing into the Green wire just forward of the connector towards the headlights, and running an extra 16 gauge wire, soldered in, back to the battery or maybe the frame, to give it some current carrying insurance. I sell decent bulbs by the way, look great, last a long time, very reasonable current rating(aside from above story...) Have them in all my bikes and cars. $30 a pair. Re: 929 Headlight not Working OK. Here is what I had to do to get things back in order. I found that the red and black wire had broken it's connection. Here is a super hi-rez shot of the situation. http://www.chbx.net/IMG_6809.JPG The spot circled in red is where I re-soldered it. Once connected, everything worked fine, lows and highs. Notice the melted spots on the lower edge from failed attempts. Hope that helps. Good luck. |

Re: 929 Headlight not Working Hey, hope someone is still on this. Im trying to find my broken ground. When i ground the low beam, I have high beams. I opened up the starter housing, and using a continuity tester, check the joints, the black and red/black are both good. the red/yellow one doesnt light up the tester bulb. Which one is the ground and should the yellow/red one light with the ignition on "ON"?? Thanks |
