Yeah, that's unavoidable. Just like going to Mexico. They are always trying to sell stuff. I just ignore them.

Smog isn't that great in Bangkok either but the Thai boxing is fun to see. Brutal sport.

Re: Where to go for honeymoon

I chartered a boat for a day and ran around some islands, but this is the bad time of year to be there as it is monsoon season and the water is full of junk...visibility sucks. Not Thailand's fault, just happened to have bad timing to need to go there for work.

Bangkok has 3 of the top 10 highest ranking hotels in the world including the Oriental which is the top rated hotel in the world. Not that I can afford to stay there, it's just that there is a big variety of costs in Thailand and you get what you pay for. One night I stayed in a $2.50 room with a bathroom down the hall, no hot water. Didn't need hot water as it's so blazing hot anyway that cool showers feel good. But anyway, I did most of the backpacker/adventure stuff. Cool culture, nice people, if you scuba dive they have 5 of the top 10 dive sites in the world too. I did a little of that. Ship wreck dive, shark dive. They have people doing massage on the beaches, nekkid europeans all over. I'd go back again but I'd stay to the north part of the country. I did the beach thing and I prefer the cooler mountains, small towns, less tourists, more culture.

-I don't think Steggy would have to worry about the she-males on his honeymoon. Unless wifey is into that sort of thing. Still a cool spectacle though. We would walk by bars and as soon as I was in view, the little Thai hooker girls would start calling to me. Then my girl would come into view and they would stop.

Buddy of mine did the Disney Cruise, loved it. Spent some time in the magic kingdom then headed out to sea. According to him there are some places that the adults and the kids are separated so that was cool.

We are taking a Hawaii island cruise this winter...

Aruba is nice too, as is US and British VI's.

Duh!! Forgot about that. heh. I've never personally been myself actually, it's just some place I'd like to go sometime.

I hear Thailand is very nice as well, and cheap. Just watch out for the ladyboys.

Thailand:

My last vacation. 10 days there is cheaper than 10 days in Hawaii. 650 dollar plane ticket but once you get there it's 50 dollars a week per person for all expenses. We were sitting on a white sand beach drinking foo foo drinks all day for pennies. Well, of course I was drinking beer....hehe. Lot's of adventure there too if you are interested.

Maui is outstanding.
We went there, but it can be a little pricey.

Re: Where to go for honeymoon

Steggie, how much $ you got? That's the most important factor. There are great places all over the world. I don't know how much you've traveled the US, but it's basically like 50 European sized countries.

I've done a pretty good amount of international travel the last few years and I don't think I'd want to go international for the first time, on my honeymoon to anywhere "adventurous" like Turkey. Stick to places that are set up around resorts. Cancun, Tahiti, Fiji, these kinds of places are laid back and easy to get around so there's no real stress.

What do you like more, beaches or mountains? So you want to sit around or hike about and see a bunch of territory?

Re: Where to go for honeymoon

Alysia and I went to Riviera Maya, Mexico (30 miles South of Cancun) for ours. I posted photos last Fall but it looks like they're no longer available. The trip was around $1800 (not including air fare) for 7 days in an all-inclusive hotel. The catch was that we were there during hurricane season, but we had nothing but blue skies all week long. We're considering going back this Fall - that's how much we enjoyed it.

EDIT: I reloaded some of the photos into SnapFish. Here's a link to the album:
